WirelessDevNet.com Press Release
QUALCOMM Delivers 3.6 Mbps Data Rates With HSDPA
SAN DIEGO, -- QUALCOMM Incorporated
(Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of Code Division Multiple
Access (CDMA) and other advanced wireless technologies, today announced the
Company has achieved HSDPA data rates of 3.6 Mbps with major infrastructure
vendors using test terminals based on QUALCOMM's Mobile Station Modem(TM)
(MSM(TM)) MSM6280(TM) solution.
"We have gone from sampling the MSM6280 chipset to achieving 3.6 Mbps
calls in interoperability testing with infrastructure vendors in less than
two months, and anticipate reaching data rates of 7.2 Mbps in the near
future," said Luis Pineda, senior vice president of marketing and product
management for QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies. "Taking advantage of our prior
work in making the MSM6275 HSDPA solution commercially available has resulted
in an accelerated schedule for the pin-, RF- and software-compatible MSM6280,
and offers quicker time-to-market by allowing existing MSM6275 designs to be
leveraged for new, advanced devices supporting even higher speeds."
QUALCOMM powered the industry's first HSDPA-enabled devices with its
MSM6275(TM) solution supporting data rates of up to 1.8 Mbps. The second-
generation MSM6280 single-chip baseband supports WCDMA (UMTS)/HSDPA and is
backward compatible with GSM/GPRS/EDGE (EGPRS) standards. Designed to
support data rates of up to 7.2 Mbps on the downlink, the solution also
integrates a wide range of multimedia features, including advanced video,
audio, imaging and 3D graphics capabilities.
QUALCOMM's chipset solutions support the Launchpad(TM) suite of advanced
multimedia, connectivity, position location, user interface and removable
storage functionality, as well as QUALCOMM's BREW(R) solution. The BREW
solution enables the development and monetization of advanced applications
and content, allowing operators and OEMs to differentiate their products and
services and increase revenues. The Company's chipsets are also compatible
with the Java(TM) runtime environment; J2ME(TM) can be built entirely on the
chipset as an extension to the BREW client.
QUALCOMM Incorporated (www.qualcomm.com) is a leader in developing and
delivering innovative digital wireless communications products and services
based on CDMA and other advanced technologies. Headquartered in San Diego,
Calif., QUALCOMM is included in the S&P 500 Index and is a 2005 FORTUNE
