WirelessDevNet.com Press Release

The Quick and Easy Way Pocket PC Users Get the Most from Their Handheld PCs

September 16, 2005 -- Pocket PC Island, a specialized web site, today announced the availability of its wealth of free resources to anyone interested in those handheld computers known as "Pocket PCs" or "PDAs." The term "PDA" arrived in 1993 when Apple introduced the Newton, and dubbed it a "personal digital assistant." The category became popular when Palm introduced the PalmPilot in 1996. Later Microsoft introduced the "Pocket PC." Currently there are numerous manufacturers of the devices, with the Palm OS and Microsoft’s Windows Mobile being the main two operating systems.

With several million of the devices being sold each year, prospective buyers need guidance and new owners need to know how to make the devices as useful to them as possible. Those were the motivations for the creation of Pocket PC Island, an Internet site with a mission. With dozens of articles and thousands of links organized into 130 headings, a PDA fan can spend hours exploring the nuances of the handheld PC. Want help deciding on Palm versus Pocket PC? Like to know how to transfer your favorite movie from a DVD so you can watch it anywhere? Like to load a map into your PDA, or add a GPS receiver to it so you don't get lost on your next trip? Like to know what software is available for your operating system, or where you can buy accessories for your little PC? Interested in playing games while you are sitting in the doctor's waiting room? There are pages in http://www.pocketpcisland.com devoted to all of those subjects, and many more.

Users who would like to keep up with new developments in the field can subscribe to the newsletter, and those who like to write about the subject are encouraged to submit articles to be added to the site. Articles that are submitted will include the author's name and web link.

About Pocket PC Island
The site is based in Seattle, WA, and strives to provide the PDA user with a broad range of useful information, at no charge to visitors. Other related sites are invited to submit their web links, so that the site will continue to expand in scope and usefulness.
