Intellisync Introduces First Open Mobile Unified Messaging Platform Enabling 'Office in Your Phone'
SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 26 Intellisync
Corporation (Nasdaq: SYNC), the leader in platform-independent wireless
messaging and mobile software, today introduced "Intellisync Unified
Messaging(TM)" for mobile devices. The announcement further extends
Intellisync's leadership in mobile messaging and raises the stakes in the
wireless email software market. Intellisync Unified Messaging makes any type
of mobile communication -- email, voice, text or instant message (IM)
-- accessible on a single interface on any device in any location, with
"One-Touch" access. The experience is truly unified, and is designed to
increase productivity and user satisfaction with wireless communications for
mobile professionals, large enterprises and wireless carriers. Intellisync
Unified Messaging also provides an enterprise-ready, carrier-grade wireless
email and instant messaging platform that will enable IT managers and mobile
operators to provide users with seamless access to business and personal
communications on mobile devices. The company is demonstrating its Unified
Messaging platform this week in Booth #153 at CTIA Wireless I.T. &
Entertainment 2005 (Moscone Center in San Francisco, Calif.).
Enterprise mobile deployments are reaching an inflection point where
strong volumes of mobile workers, increased growth of mobile infrastructure
software and growth across key enterprise-grade mobile devices all make for
high adoption of mobile enterprise solutions in the next 5 years, according to
IDC, a leading provider of global IT research and advice. IDC predicts that
smart phones will make up approximately 85 percent of all intelligent mobile
device shipments by the year 2007. "Mobile professionals will require
communications functionality and usability from a converged device that
approximates what they currently have available on their office desktops,"
said Stephen Drake, program director of IDC's mobile software service.
"Mobile Unified Messaging solutions from the larger wireless software
companies such as Intellisync, provide a vision for connecting people and
information in ways that help people work smarter in a growing mobile chaotic
environment, while integrating multiple data sources to customers' back-end
systems."
Woodson 'Woody' Hobbs, chief executive officer of Intellisync, said, "The
first wave of unified messaging was about the PC and the desktop phone. While
this was useful, it wasn't convenient for mobile professionals. It was an
important step in integrating some communication mediums but it certainly did
not radically improve or add to the experience of mobile device users."
"Today, Intellisync initiates the second wave of unified messaging that
integrates important communication channels -- email, IM, text and voice
-- and unifies and delivers those communications onto a single mobile device
screen, to provide the best possible mobile experience. We will enable you to
work where you want, when you want, and with all the information you need
right at your fingertips. That's what Intellisync Unified Messaging is all
about," continued Mr. Hobbs.
All Major Instant Messaging Networks on a Single Screen
For the first time, mobile users can access their email, IM on any
network, text/SMS messages, web access, voice communications, contacts,
calendar information, and more -- all from a single mobile device screen. The
new software from Intellisync will create an experience on the mobile device
that is similar to the best possible desktop experience, whereby all of the
major IM networks such as AOL, Google, Jabber, ICQ, Microsoft and Yahoo! can
be easily accessed by the mobile user. For corporate instant messaging,
Intellisync plans to support the major corporate IM solutions, including
Microsoft Live Communications Server and IBM Lotus Sametime. The Instant
Messaging client also supports IM standards from the Open Mobile Alliance
(Wireless Village).
For businesses that require additional security and compliance measures,
Intellisync enables IT and security managers to lock down IM access to conform
to specific security policies and regulatory requirements.
Presence-Based Mobile Services Now Integrated with Calendar and Contacts
An important capability of Intellisync Unified Messaging is Presence.
Intellisync software now informs users when other users are available and
willing to communicate in a way that extends beyond current "presence-based"
capabilities of other offerings in the worldwide mobile device industry. By
integrating presence services with email, calendar and contact information,
the Intellisync platform automatically lets people know whether or not the
user is in a meeting, traveling or available. Intellisync augments this
capability by enabling users to set their personal communications preferences,
defining how and when people can most effectively reach them.
From a user perspective, this "presence service" is very useful -- the
user not only has access to their business colleagues via any messaging
methodology they choose on their device screen, but the application can in
fact, recommend the best way to communicate with others based on their
preferred communications method at that specific time. The user can also
specify how they want to be communicated with, giving them control over the
information flowing to their mobile device.
For example, a manager's colleague may be in a sales meeting negotiating
price and prefer for their manager to contact them discreetly via IM to
discuss pricing, rather than by a voice call. The user in the meeting can set
their status so that the manager knows to contact them via IM.
Mobile Data Integration
Another distinctive feature of Intellisync Unified Messaging is mobile
data integration. Intellisync enables the user to see all the information
relating to a contact in one location. In one view, the user can see how many
emails, voicemails, and SMS messages they have from a particular contact and
access them easily. The user's address, phone number, and Instant Messaging
ID are available to be used instantly if needed. Data integration makes it
very simple to engage with others.
Broad Network, Platform and Device Support
Intellisync Unified Messaging supports a broad range of mobile data device
environments including PalmOS(TM), Microsoft Windows Mobile (PocketPC(TM) and
Smartphone), SymbianOS (UIQ, Series 60 and Series 80) and BREW. The email
application built into the Intellisync Unified Messaging platform supports
Microsoft Exchange and Outlook, IBM Lotus Domino and Notes, and Internet email
from providers like Comcast, Earthlink, and AOL. The system also supports
industry standard communications protocols including POP3, IMAP, and SyncML.
The unified messaging solution "powered by Intellisync(TM)" is currently
intended to be available for enterprises and for wireless carriers in November
2005.
