MediaFLO USA Demonstrates Live Datacasting Applications on FLO(TM)-enabled 3G Handsets
LAS VEGAS, CTIA Booth #2047, Hall C4/C5, April 5 --
QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of
Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and other advanced wireless technologies,
today announced that MediaFLO(TM) USA Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of the
Company, will conduct a live, over-the-air demonstration of MediaFLO USA's
datacast application capabilities during CTIA Wireless 2006, April 5-7 in Las
Vegas, in QUALCOMM Booth #2047. The proof-of-concept demonstrations showcase
content from Major League Baseball Advanced Media's Gameday and Player Tracker
and a Stock Portfolio Tracker, and involve sending a continuous stream of data
over the MediaFLO USA network, allowing constant realtime updates of the
application. This demonstration showcases the types of services MediaFLO USA
can offer its operator partners in addition to live video and audio channels.
During the demonstration at CTIA, the Major League Baseball Advanced
Media's Gameday application will demonstrate how fans can view their favorite
team's game with realtime pitch-by-pitch graphics; inning status, including
balls, strikes and outs; and game updates such as runs, hits and errors. With
the MLB Player Tracker application, fans can get realtime player statistics
and free agent information, helping them keep tabs on their favorite players
and fantasy baseball roster.
MediaFLO USA also will demonstrate a Stock Portfolio Tracker application
at CTIA. The application offers dynamic realtime updates on the status of a
user's stock portfolio, including current stock price, portfolio impact and a
stock ticker. Additional features include an alert that notifies the user
when major activity is occurring with the stocks in his or her portfolio.
The demonstrations leverage the Roundbox datacast software and MediaFLO
USA's content and service capabilities to deliver mobile services that goes
beyond traditional video.
"The potential for the wireless multimedia user experience extends far
beyond just mobile television and video. These datacasting applications
demonstrate just one way in which MediaFLO USA and its content partners will
open up brand new service opportunities to our wireless operator partners,"
said Gina Lombardi, president of MediaFLO USA. "The innovative ways in which
this multimedia content can be made available are almost endless. With
compelling content from providers such as Major League Baseball Advanced
