In Motion Technology Partners with SkyPilot Networks

Santa Clara, CA and Vancouver, BC, April 12, 2006 – In Motion Technology, the mobile gateway provider, is pleased to announce a partnership with SkyPilot Networks, the leading provider of carrier-class wireless mesh networks. The two companies provide an effective end-to-end solution for delivering mission-critical mobile broadband communications to first responders. The joint offering delivers a robust and cost-effective mobile data networking infrastructure transparently integrating best-of-breed 4.9 GHz mesh networking technology with carrier mobile data networks such as EV-DO.

“SkyPilot’s SkyExtender TriBand provides a powerful new option to progressive public safety organizations seeking to effectively mobilize their first responders using the licensed 4.9 GHz spectrum. The key is ensuring delivery of the right information to the right person at the right time,” says Kirk Moir, President and CEO, In Motion Technology. “Our combined solution allows first responders to quickly and effectively gain access to the significant benefits of municipal mesh networks while transparently leveraging carrier networks to provide connectivity while outside of 4.9 GHz coverage.”

In Motion Technology’s onBoard™ Mobile Gateway (oMG) 1000 is a best-of-breed solution that provides a trunk-mountable, environmentally hardened wireless communications gateway for use in police cars, fire trucks, ambulances and other public safety vehicles. It securely extends the convenience and simplicity of Ethernet networking to remote and mobile locations through the transparent use of high-speed wireless data networks.

“For the delivery of 4.9 GHz wireless access to be effective, the overall mobile data experience needs to be extremely robust,” says Brian Jenkins, VP of Product Management for SkyPilot Networks. “In Motion’s onBoard Mobile Gateway is optimized to work with our industry-leading mesh network infrastructure as well as existing cellular data networks. This provides public safety officers and specifically each IP device in their vehicles with transparent access to the best available network.”

As part of a complete mobile service delivery platform for mission critical communications, the oMG transparently enables multiple Ethernet, Wi-Fi (802.11i) or serial devices in the vehicle to connect securely with the agency’s headquarters over SkyPilot’s 4.9 GHz technology or cellular data carrier networks based on best available coverage. Designed to be network agile, the oMG is designed to provide forward compatibility to a wide variety of wireless data networks. In addition to 4.9 GHz, the oMG currently supports GPRS, EDGE, 1xRTT, EV-DO, UMTS HSDPA, UMTS TDD and Flash OFDM. The gateway is an integral part of a complete mobile service delivery platform available from In Motion Technology. This platform enables oMGs to be managed as extensions to the existing headquarters data communications network.

“The SkyExtender TriBand fits perfectly with our mobile service delivery platform and our vehicle-optimized onBoard Mobile Gateway,” commented Larry LeBlanc, Chief Technology Officer, In Motion Technology. “SkyPilot is a leader in standards-based 4.9 GHz network infrastructure. We look forward to working with SkyPilot to deliver the best available wireless communications infrastructure to first responders.”
