Newsland Publishes Survey of Smart Mobile Device Users in the U.S., Europe and Russia

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 17 -- Newsland, the Personal Mobile Media Service that delivers instant information to subscribers' pocket PCs and smartphones, today announced the results of their latest survey of smart mobile device users for the first half of 2006.

The survey of 70,000 smart mobile device users in the U.S., Europe and Russia found that although there is a tendency shift toward producing more smartphones than PDAs, customers are not in a hurry to adopt the trend. The research revealed that a vast majority of smart device owners still use PDAs and the average percentage of smartphone penetration in the three regions is 26%.

The survey draws the profile of smartphone and PDA users and breaks down smart mobile device use and mobile content preferences. Newsland research finds that, in the U.S., the U.K. and France, there is a small difference in numbers between male and female users, while in Russia there is only one female per 5 users. In Italy and Russia the majority of smart device users (28% and 39% are 20-29 years old, respectively) are younger than in other countries where 36% of respondents are between 30 and 39 years old. Most smart device users are well-educated, earn good incomes, and work as managers.

The results show that smart mobile devices have become an integral part of their owners' lives, at least in the surveyed countries. 45% of the respondents sync their devices daily and download a substantial amount of mobile content. According to the survey results, smart device owners enjoy photo/video and news content the most (38%).

You can find the full version of the survey here http://www.newsland.net/eng/press/33/ . The second part of the research with more detailed statistics concerning smart mobile device use will come out in October 2006.
