I-play and GolfSpan Bring First Instructional Golf Video Clips to Mobile
Los Angeles, CA & San Mateo, CA - December 13, 2006 - I-play, the mobile entertainment company, and GolfSpan, a leading online golf video destination, today announced a new service that offers on-demand golf video instruction from world renowned instructors, including the legendary Hank Haney, to mobile phone users in North America. Focusing on all the tips and tricks to improve viewers' golf games, the instructional video series is now available exclusively to Sprint Vision or Power Vision customers for $4.99 per month.
I-play's GolfSpan is a subscription-based "electronic video magazine"
providing access to instructional video clips, delivered in a series of bi-weekly issues. The issues build over time to form a full instructional library of clips. Each video clip is available through simple, easy-to-use navigation options that allow for instant accessibility via both browsing and search options and is powered by "I-player", I-plays proprietary downloadable player application.
"I-player" allows the end-user to personalize how they view their episodic content on their mobile phone, delivering a higher quality user experience than is possible with a native player. The "I-player" is downloaded with the Golfspan content and resides on the phone and enables the end user to optimize the viewing, presentation, navigation, storage and retrieval of their video-streamed content.
"Our main goal is to assist golfers in improving their game, which means using the latest technology to better equip golfers with information they need when they need it," said Steven Glassman at GolfSpan. "From tee to green, no matter where your travels take you, you'll now have access to the latest golf instruction videos right at your fingertips."
David Gosen, CEO of I-play commented: "Beginners and pros alike will be able to take their game to all new levels with on demand golf instructions from world famous instructors such as Hank Haney, streamed to their cell phones.
This first-of-its-kind service will take you step-by-step through the process of learning the golf swing, focusing closely on the basics of the grip and set up and shot, and moving through more advanced, real world golf scenarios."
Gosen added: "With millions of avid golf fans, I-play's move into developing Java based applications, using our proprietary "I-player" technology, will allow users to view streaming golf video content where ever, when ever, and importantly how ever they want to. As entertainment providers we need to continue to deliver quality choice for consumers combined with the level of personalisation and control they demand today. This innovative approach is wholly consistent with our aim to bring fun, highly valued, user friendly and entertaining content to audiences who increasingly get their information 'on the go'."
For almost seven years GolfSpan has been the only site on the Internet that delivers exclusive video instruction from the world's top 25 golf instructors, such as Hank Haney, Jim McLean, Jimmy Ballard and Chuck Cook.
GolfSpan's instructors have taught hundreds of Tour Professionals, many who have won on tour, including all four Major Championships. GolfSpan was founded in 1999, and has had content featured on such major sites such as Yahoo!, ESPN and GolfOnline.
The Golfspan launch follows I-play's recent announcement of its diversification into broader mobile entertainment with a real first for Hollywood and the mobile industry. The 'Mobile Moments' channel allows mobile audiences to view the best and most memorable clips from Universal
Studios' most popular blockbuster movies on their mobile phones. Golfspan
demonstrates another innovative way in which I-play is delivering on its promise to offer the best in casual mobile entertainment.
A number of additional streaming video and "I-player" content announcements will be made over the coming months as I-play continues to strengthen its mobile entertainment portfolio.
