Ekahau and Sigma Explore Collaboration on Location-Aware IV Pumps
SAN DIEGO, CA (HIMSS Conference) Ekahau Inc. announced today that it is working with Sigma International to explore the development of "smart" IV pumps whose locations can be accurately tracked in real-time using existing Wi-Fi networks in healthcare facilities. Sigma is in development to utilize Digi International's Digi Connect WiFi module that has embedded Ekahau's locating software client. Devices that incorporate these location tracking Wi-Fi modules will take advantage of existing Wi-Fi Network installations eliminating the need for additional hardware and the prohibitive costs often associated with deploying other location-tracking applications.
Real-time location tracking of medical equipment, such as IV pumps, is critical to the ability of healthcare facilities to manage their equipment inventories and ensure they are compliant with regulations requiring routine maintenance of such devices. With Ekahau's software integrated into medical devices, healthcare facilities can easily and cost-effectively begin tracking these devices with the purchase of the Ekahau Positioning Engine and Tracker software, which provides a real-time view of tracked objects from any web-enabled computer.
