QUALCOMM's BREW(R) Solution Helps China Unicom Improve Competitive Edge in Wireless Market

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 21 -- QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and other advanced wireless technologies, today announced a number of significant milestones for China United Telecommunications Corporation's (China Unicom) BREW-based wireless data service. QUALCOMM's BREW solution enables advanced wireless data services for all phones including China Unicom's low-end CDMA2000(R) phones, improving its competitive edge in the Chinese wireless market.

Since launching the BREW solution in July 2003, China Unicom's wireless data services have been tremendously successful. There are more than 2.5 million cumulative BREW users who have downloaded more than 30 million BREW applications. More than 1,000 different BREW applications and services have been offered on China Unicom's network covering a variety of categories including games, ring tone and music download services, picture and video clip downloading, streaming TV, instant messaging, location-based services, news and weather reports, mobile banking and stock trading, productivity tools and enterprise applications. According to Sino-MR, more than 6 million BREW handsets, covering more than 90 different models, have been sold in China.

"We are very pleased to see how the BREW solution makes significant contributions to China Unicom's CDMA business," said Bob Briggs, vice president of global business relations and marketing for QUALCOMM Internet Services. "We will continue working with China Unicom in 2006 with a goal of substantially growing their CDMA2000 business by offering a wide array of BREW applications."

"China Unicom will take advantage of data services such as navigation, mobile video, music and 3D games offered through the BREW solution to better position its CDMA2000 offering in 2006," said Mr. Li Zhengmao, vice president of China Unicom. "The BREW solution has led to many successes in the past year, not only in terms of financial contributions, but also in terms of strategic importance to China Unicom's overall CDMA2000 market strategy. There is no doubt that these services will play an even more vital role in 2006. We appreciate the strong cooperation between China Unicom and QUALCOMM in the past and we look forward to an even brighter future for the BREW solution in China."

Li also stated that important market strategies for China Unicom in 2006 include offering BREW-enabled CDMA2000 phones with a retail price of less than $80 and to continue to leverage its service differentiation powered by its CDMA2000 network, the BREW solution and QUALCOMM's QPoint(TM) and gpsOne(TM) solutions.

The BREW solution enhances the wireless experience for consumers and creates new services and revenue streams for the mobile marketplace. BREW customers can benefit from these offerings which include: uiOne(TM) for rich, integrated and dynamic user experiences on wireless devices; deliveryOne(TM) for differentiated and tightly integrated in-network support and delivery of advanced wireless data content and services; and marketOne(TM) for a quick- to-market, hosted, scalable content delivery service that includes rich media titles, flexible management and monetization, content provider settlement and business intelligence services. QUALCOMM offers this comprehensive set of BREW offerings to meet the distinct needs of companies delivering mobile services around the world.

QUALCOMM's gpsOne technology is the most widely deployed GPS technology in the world. With more than 150 million gpsOne-enabled handsets at over 40 operators globally, QUALCOMM is enabling dramatically more devices than any other GPS provider.

QPoint is QUALCOMM's location services software and set of accompanying tools making up the core backend/infrastructure element needed to enable location services to be deployed. QUALCOMM works with system integrators to offer QPoint to operators. QUALCOMM's QPoint and gpsOne solutions provide the most complete, integrated mass-market location based services solution available today.
