Trinity Convergence Expands VoIP Software Platform for WiFi Handsets & Consumer Electronics Devices
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC -- 02/21/2006 -- Trinity Convergence, Inc., a leading provider of voice + video over IP embedded software solutions, today announced the general availability of version 2.2 of its VeriCall Edge™ VoIP software platform.
The company also announced that it has ported VeriCall Edge to additional silicon platforms, including the Intel® PXA270, Philips Semiconductor PNX4008 and Texas Instruments OMAP™. These platforms complement currently supported Freescale i.MXL and i.MX21 processors and the Intel IXP425 network processor.
The additional silicon platforms increase the breadth and depth of devices and applications -- including voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) and multimedia-enabled WiFi phones -- optimized to run VeriCall Edge software.
VeriCall Edge provides original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with a turnkey, embedded software platform for designing VoIP functionality into a range of consumer devices and enterprise equipment. VeriCall Edge is currently licensed and used in the following products:
Wired VoIP Phones
Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) Phones
Wired IP Videophones
WiFi IP Videophones
IP Routers
VoWiFi Personal Media Players
Designing VoIP for Life™
VeriCall Edge customers include premier consumer electronics brands, including Royal Philips Electronics. Philips embedded the VeriCall Edge software platform in its VP5500 WiFi videophone that it recently demonstrated at CES 2006. Philips will first launch the VP5500 cordless videophone in the Netherlands as part of Dutch telecommunications operator KPN's consumer VoIP product InternetPlusBellen.
"Innovative design and usability is what will drive mainstream consumer adoption of new services such as voice over WiFi and personal videoconferencing," stated Michael Ward, director of product management, Trinity Convergence. "The VeriCall Edge software platform enables OEMs and their ODMs to streamline product launch cycles, accelerate their time-to-market and deliver innovative personal communication devices into the hands of digital consumers."
VeriCall Edge 2.2 software introduces advanced functionality into a high-performance and tightly integrated software platform that enables the delivery of feature-rich, two-way voice and video over IP functionality in consumer devices. In addition to new SIP configuration features, key enhancements to the VeriCall Edge software platform include:
Secure SIP -- Provides increased security during call set-up; prevents
malicious call forwarding; secures Instant Messaging; and extends SIP-based
VoIP to users of unsecure networks by supporting encrypted SIP messages
using transport layer security (TLS).
GSM-AMR -- Global System for Mobile (GSM) Adaptive Multi-Rate (AMR) is
a speech codec standard introduced by the 3rd Generation Partnership
Project (3GPP), a joint development project of various standards
organizations, focused on preserving high quality voice transmissions under
a range of conditions.
iLBC -- A royalty-free, narrow-band speech codec designed for high-
quality voice communications over IP; provides a payload bit rate of 13.33
kbit/s and enables graceful speech quality degradation in the case of lost
packets.
STUN -- Provides integrated support for "NAT Traversal"; STUN [or
Simple Traversal of User Datagram Protocol (UDP) Through Network Address
Translators (NATs)] is a protocol that enables a SIP client to traverse
through asymmetric NATs, a common type of NAT used in many residential
gateways.
VeriCall Edge software provides a complete voice + video over IP (V2IP) solution for mobile and wired devices, offering all of the media processing, packet handling and call control functionality required to build a V2IP-enabled client device.
