Phonesitter.co.uk Puts Tearaway Teens On The Map For Parents
26 July 2006 - Even if they’re not tearaways, teenagers will come home late, say they’re in one place but be somewhere else, and not ring home as promised. It goes with the territory. And as a result, parents will worry. But that worry is considerably eased by the forthcoming launch of Phonesitter (http://www.phonesitter.co.uk), a mobile phone tracking service which will be available from 13th August for as little as £5 a month.
Phonesitter tracks any registered mobile phone from the ‘big four’ networks and offers the user not just the location of the phone but satellite photos, street maps and directions. The results are simple to view (and print) online; for users who have an urgent need and aren't near a computer, tracking can also be managed easily from another mobile using SMS.
The service is a boon for families. Mum can check if Lucy really did go to her friend’s house and not the party across town. Dad can be sure that Billy really is at school. If young Charlie is inclined to dawdle on the way home, the family can be sure he’s on his way. And if he isn’t, Phonesitter provides all the information needed to go and get him.
Rafael Fernandez, joint owner of Phonesitter.co.uk, says: “This is an answer to the dilemma of many parents who want to give their kids more freedom but need the reassurance of knowing exactly where they are – without having to nag them with phone calls and texts.”
But its usefulness goes beyond childminding. It can find a friend lost in a strange town. Users can even locate themselves if they’re lost without a map. In emergency, it can check if a loved one missed the motorway pileup that’s just been on the news. And for businesses with mobile employees, Phonesitter can make a big difference to timekeeping.
Phonesitter is not intrusive. It is not possible to track any phone without the prior knowledge and authorisation of the phone holder, and once authorised, all registered phone holders are informed that they may be tracked, and may withdraw from the service at any time by a simple text message to Phonesitter.
Phonesitter.co.uk launches 13 August 2006. By joining online, customers can select from a number of monthly tariffs or annual pre-payment. The basic monthly subscription of GBP £5 covers tracking of up to five phones. Annual pre-payment includes 12 months’ membership and 20 locates. Pre-paid packages will also be available at selected retailers.
