Outsmart Introduces IMS Multi Access™ – A New IMS Application Server

Tel Aviv, Israel - June 06, 2006 - Outsmart Ltd., a leading provider of network convergence and IMS based solutions, announced today the launch of IMS Multi Access™, a new IMS application server, The application server is comprised of three products: the IM-SSF, the IMAF and the CCCF. The new application server mediates between IMS and legacy networks, allowing operators to maintain service continuity with the transition to new IMS network, as well as introducing new IMS services using their existing network. Additionally, the platform ensures seamless handoff of calls between coverage areas.

As IMS continues to penetrate the telecommunication industry, operators are challenged to provide IMS services under all coverage conditions, ensure IMS users seamless service continuity while roaming to 2G\3G coverage areas, and be able to introduce new IMS services to 2G\3G customers. With IMS Multi Access, mobile operators will be able to offer current services to be used by IMS users, offer new IMS services to be used by their current Legacy subscribers. In addition, the solution will allow for service continuity when an IMS user loses IMS coverage and is served by a legacy network. As the move to an IMS based network will take several years to complete, IMS Multi Access provides a smooth transition into IMS while using existing operators’ infrastructure.

The application server, which is based on the standards bodies 3GPP and 3GPP2 for IMS-controlled service and call continuity, has three main products: the IM-SSF (IMS Service Switching Function) facilitates the use of current IN services to IMS users, without any change to the IN service logic or platform. This allows users to continue using their trusted and familiar services when changing to new IMS devices. Furthermore, it enables operators to get a “head-start” on launching IMS, extending the time in which new IMS services can be tested and proven mature enough for IMS users.

The IMAF (IMS Multi Access Function) enables IMS services to be absorbed by legacy users, easing the transition to new IMS services for those in the CS domain. This allows for enjoyment of new IMS services on current non-IMS handsets. It also allows operators’ IMS offer to work with all existing customers, not just IMS users.

Finally, the CCCF (Call Continuity Control Function, also known as Mobility Management Application Server) allows for the seamless handoff of calls, using a single dual-mode handset in any coverage environment. With this product, users may use IP phones, PC, mobile or DMH, as all will be controlled by the CCCF, enabling users to have a personal profile to manage incoming & outgoing calls.

For example, a user will be able to receive a mobile phone call at home with simultaneous ringing on all devices, as well as be able to pick up calls from mobile to a fixed line, all with one voicemail and one prepaid account. This product was already incorporated into Siemens’ IMS/FMC solution.

“Outsmart is always looking towards the future of mobile technology, and consistently providing solutions that are tailored to the IMS environment and accessible to services already on the current market,” says Menahem Tirosh, Chief Executive Officer of Outsmart. “Our new IMS solution is proof that new technologies can be comfortably and easily integrated into present environments, accelerating the adaptation of IMS technology and services.”
