Clickatell Expands Into Europe With the Opening of UK Office

RICHMOND, UNITED KINGDOM, 6th June 2006 -- Clickatell, the premier global mobile message carrier, today announced its commitment to its expanding European business with the establishment of UK headquarters in Richmond, Surrey and the appointment of Deon van Heerden as UK country manager.

“With identity theft and financial fraud severely impacting consumer and business banking, leading financial companies around the world are harnessing Clickatell’s end-to-end global messaging services as a solution,” said Deon van Heerden. “Banks, for example, can now alert any Internet banking client whenever someone logs into their account, immediately notifying customers to any fraudulent activity. In Europe, Asia and Africa, this type of alert communication is becoming commonplace and it is now a fast-growing trend in America.”

Other business sectors such as government, travel, and insurance are also leveraging Clickatell’s global messaging solutions. According to figures from Portio Research, 761 billion SMS were sent in 2004 – that’s over 100 messages for every man, woman and child on the planet. Portio estimates that worldwide SMS traffic volumes will grow to 2,379 billion in 2010.

“The appointment of Deon, and the opening of an office in the UK, is in response to our rapidly growing European customer base that is using Clickatell SMS and multimodal messaging to provide next generation corporate messaging services to customers and employees,” commented Pieter de Villiers, CEO, Clickatell.

Deon van Heerden will be responsible for the day-to-day management of Clickatell UK and its expansion into the British and European markets. Deon is an accomplished management consultant and successful entrepreneur with 12 years experience in a wide variety of large-scale strategic business transformation consulting programmes, general management and operations. Previously, Deon held the position of senior manager with Accenture and The Berkeley Partnership, he also founded the UK based MediClinic Ltd, a successful private healthcare industry company.

Clickatell’s SMS gateway offers connectivity to 569 networks in more than 184 countries. In March 2006 the company merged with Silicon Valley-based MultiMode Inc. to add multimodal messaging capabilities to its platform. Today the company’s corporate messaging services offer large and small businesses the most cost-effective, end-to-end multimodal messaging platform available in the world today.

Clickatell’s European headquarters are based at Gainsborough House, 2 Sheen Road, Richmond, Surrey.
