WirelessDevNet.com Press Release
QUALCOMM's Graphics Solution Elevates the Mobile Experience for Richer 3D Games and More
SAN DIEGO, June 8 -- QUALCOMM Incorporated
(Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of Code Division Multiple
Access (CDMA) and other advanced wireless technologies, today announced that
network operators in leading 3G markets worldwide are offering an increasing
number of mobile handsets featuring the rich hardware-accelerated 3D graphics
capabilities enabled by the Company's Q3Dimension(TM) solution. True 3D
capabilities for applications such as games, user interfaces, navigation
services and animated avatars, are now available on devices offered by six
leading manufacturers. The Company also is working with more than 30
publishers and developers, facilitating the creation of compelling content
with its standardized graphics platform.
"Delivering a high-quality 3D experience on mobile handsets is growing
increasingly important," said Masahiro Inoue, associate senior vice president
and general manager of "au" Service & Product planning Division, "au"
Business Sector for KDDI Corporation. "Services from advanced mobile gaming
to 3D user interfaces will be featured on next-generation handsets as well,
continuing our commitment to offering our subscribers the most cutting-edge
experience available. We see QUALCOMM's Q3Dimension as one of the low-cost,
important solutions to realize our commitment."
"QUALCOMM's hardware-based 3D graphics acceleration is featured on
devices offering compelling content from today's hottest publishers and
developers, who are leveraging the richness 3D brings to mobile applications
and services," said Mark Frankel, vice president of product management for
QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies. "Our collaboration with leaders in all parts of
the value chain has helped bring the benefits of 3D graphics to the mobile
ecosystem, and we look forward to bringing together even more industry
leaders in our drive to deliver 3D to an ever-expanding market."
The Q3Dimension solution is offered on QUALCOMM's Multimedia, Enhanced
Multimedia, and Convergence Platform chipsets. The Company is currently
working with leading publishers and developers leveraging the hardware
acceleration of the Enhanced Platform -- many of whom have already
commercialized compelling BREW(R) and Java(R) 3D games, including EitaroSoft,
Electronic Arts, Floodgate, Gameloft, Glu Mobile, Hudson Entertainment,
Indiagames, SEGA, Superscape and Taito Corporation.
The Q3Dimension solution, which enables wireless handsets to feature
advanced 3D graphics performance comparable to many dedicated game devices
today, is fully integrated into QUALCOMM's Mobile Station Modem(TM) chipsets
and eliminates the need for a separate co-processor. The standardized
Q3Dimension platform streamlines the content creation process and enables
significant economies of scale for content providers. It is part of the
Launchpad(TM) suite of advanced multimedia, connectivity, position location,
user interface and removable storage functionality.
QUALCOMM's Q3Dimension solution, delivering hardware acceleration and
support for the industry-standard OpenGL(R) ES application program interface
when combined with the BREW solution, is helping to drive advanced native
gaming on 3G wireless devices, while offering game publishers and developers
an efficient, flexible, and fast platform for creating 3D games. QUALCOMM's
chipsets also are compatible with the Java runtime environment (J2ME(R)),
while QVM(TM), QUALCOMM's Java solution, provides the JSR 184 standard for
Java 3D support.
QUALCOMM Incorporated (www.qualcomm.com) is a leader in developing and
delivering innovative digital wireless communications products and services
based on CDMA and other advanced technologies. Headquartered in San Diego,
