NAVTEQ Announces North American Global LBS Challenge Semi-Finalist Winners
CHICAGO, March 1 -- NAVTEQ (NYSE: NVT), a leading global provider of digital map data for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions, announced the North American semi-finalists for the NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge(TM). The Challenge is a program encouraging application developers from around the world to build innovative location-based service (LBS) applications that work with portable devices using dynamic positioning technology and NAVTEQ(R) maps.
Over 140 companies registered LBS applications, with 14 semi-finalists now advancing to final judging, which will be conducted on April 6 at CTIA Wireless in Las Vegas. The semi-finalists represent a broad spectrum of wireless applications in four categories: Navigation, Business Applications, Entertainment and Leisure, and Social Networking. Semi-finalists were selected based on each competitor's commercial feasibility, functionality and design.
Executives from wireless carriers, hardware and device manufacturers, industry analysts and venture capital firms in the wireless industry will select the 2006 North America grand prize winner from the pool of semi-finalists. NAVTEQ will name one winner per solution category, presenting each with $10,000 cash and $75,000 in NAVTEQ data licenses for up to one year. Of the category winners, one will be designated the Grand Prize Winner, and receive $50,000 cash and $100,000 in NAVTEQ map data licenses for up to one year (in lieu of the category prize).
