Modtones Releases First Movie Theme Ringtones Chart on the Heels of the Academy Awards

SAN FRANCISCO --- The silver screen, small screen and PC screen are giving away to that most ubiquitous screen of all, the cell phone. In the spirit of award season, Modtones proudly presents its first list of the best movie performers on the fourth screen.

Modtones, powered by Moderati, provides ringtones for all major and second-tier wireless carriers in the U.S. under its Modtones.com brand or the carrier’s own brand. This distribution network uniquely positions Modtones as a bellwether of mobile trends across the country. The following results represent a cross-section of the company’s distribution network during Q3 and Q4 of 2005.

In the fictional category Best Ringtone from a Supporting Movie, a song from the 2004 film Eurotrip topped the U.S. movie theme charts: “Scotty Doesn’t Know” by Lustra. Moderati’s creative team closely follows pop culture trends, and knew this would be a teen DVD favorite, which usually translates into strong ringtone sales.

Seven of the top 10 ringtones (70%) are from movies with sequels, which may prove the power of repeated impressions. No one particular genre of film dominated the charts—comedies, horror flicks, thrillers, love stories, and dramas all held their own. And there was a fair distribution of films from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s.

“Movie themes make fantastic ringtones because of their familiarity and the mood they evoke,” said Cindy Lundin Mesaros, VP Marketing for Moderati. “The theme from “Halloween” communicates dread and fear -- perfect for when your mother-in-law calls.”

Without further ado, the top movie theme ringtones from Modtones:
Song title (Movie) 1. Scotty Doesn’t Know (Eurotrip)
2. Halloween Theme (Halloween)
3. Pink Panther Theme (Pink Panther)
4. Eye of the Tiger (Rocky)
5. Godfather Love Theme (Godfather)
6. Mission Impossible Theme (Mission Impossible)
7. James Bond Theme
8. Seasons of Love (Rent)
9. Dueling Banjos (Deliverance)
10. Tubular Bells (The Exorcist)
