Wi-Fi Alliance® Chooses Azimuth Test Equipment for Certification Program
ACTON, MA – March 6, 2006 – Azimuth Systems Inc., the leading provider of Wi-Fi® engineering test equipment, today announced that the Wi-Fi Alliance® has chosen Azimuth’s ADEPT™-WFA test platform with ADEPT AzCert™ software for use in the Wi-Fi certification process. The new solution will provide Alliance members the ability to interface, control and capture data from products such as cellular phones and consumer electronics as part of the certification test process. As a key component in the Wi-Fi Alliance test tool suite, the ADEPT solution will address both the unique needs of Wi-Fi enabled devices in emerging product categories and provide an alternative to current methods of testing for traditional PC and networking devices. As more devices in the growing market segments offer Wi-Fi capabilities, the ADEPT solution will help facilitate the test process for Alliance members and test laboratories, enabling these products to earn the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED® mark even more quickly.
“We are seeing significant growth of Wi-Fi enabled devices ranging from games to phones to televisions, so we are establishing scalable test methodologies and tools to support interoperability in these new product categories,” said Frank Hanzlik, managing director of the Wi-Fi Alliance. “The Azimuth ADEPT solution streamlines the test process for emerging product categories, and makes our certification program more flexible and scalable for the benefit of all members.”
“As Wi-Fi applications move beyond data to include voice and video, the types of devices that deliver these applications is also evolving,” said Jeff Abramowitz, vice president of marketing at Azimuth Systems. “There is a growing need for standard test platforms in the Wi-Fi industry as vendors aim to verify the interoperability of these new devices. The Wi-Fi Alliance plays a crucial role in enabling industry expansion and we are pleased that, once again, they have chosen Azimuth as a partner to help automate their product certification efforts.”
The Wi-Fi Alliance testing solution includes the same intelligent ADEPT-WFA hardware that was recently added to the Wi-Fi Alliance test bed. Adding Azimuth’s ADEPT AzCert software to the ADEPT-WFA enables the device to capture traffic and automate the test process, which can simplify interoperability testing and streamline Wi-Fi Certification.
The new ADEPT software leverages functionality from existing Azimuth testing solutions. ADEPT AzCert software includes the latest generation of Azimuth’s TestMAC™ technology, which captures traffic on both of its 802.11a/b/g ports, as well as both of its Ethernet ports, with a high level of timing accuracy – providing a platform for accurate measurement and validation of flows, delay, jitter and sequencing. Additionally, Azimuth’s ADEPT AzCert software provides end-to-end operation without the need for operator involvement, automatically delivering test results. The basis for the test plan automation is the Azimuth TCL Test Manager, which operates the device under test (DUT), generates traffic from the test manager PC or DUT, captures the resulting activity and analyzes the results to determine whether the test passes or fails.
Availability
The ADEPT-WFA is currently available and the ADEPT AzCert software will begin shipping in June 2006. The products will be sold through the Wi-Fi Alliance distribution agreement with Terrawave and through the Azimuth sales team at sales@azimuthsystems.com.
