Sprint Is the First Major Carrier to Roll Out New Mobile Entertainment Application
LOS ANGELES, March 6 -- Fandango, the nation's largest
online, phone and mobile movie ticketing service (representing nearly 70% of
all U.S. theaters with remote ticketing), is enabling Sprint (NYSE: S)
customers with access to Fandango's state-of-the art mobile
platform -- including movie ticketing and information and movie-related
text-messaging -- directly from select Sprint and Nextel phones.
Sprint is the first wireless communications provider to feature Fandango's
best-of-breed mobile entertainment application and services, available at
mobile.fandango.com. According to a recent Sprint U.S. Consumer Wireless
Usage Study, a nationwide survey of wireless phone users, more than half
(56 percent) of users rely on their mobile phones for non-voice functions such
as entertainment applications.
As mobile phone technology becomes more advanced, users are demanding more
sophisticated applications for mobile entertainment. Fandango's new mobile
service, developed in association with wireless application developer Crisp
Wireless, is geared to make the entire moviegoing experience as convenient for
as many moviegoers as possible -- anywhere, anytime. The easy-to-use service
will enable mobile users to obtain:
tickets within seconds;
comprehensive movie information, including reviews
showtimes, theater amenities, directions and maps;
downloadable offerings, including movie-related ringtones, wallpapers
and games;
mobile alerts when tickets go on sale for upcoming movies.
With Fandango's mobile messaging service, film fans can quickly get
showtimes for movies, and receive alerts of advance ticket availability for
highly anticipated films. For instance, moviegoers could conceivably send a
film title and ZIP code (e.g., "SUPERMAN 94103") as a text message to "FNDGO"
(36346) and receive showtimes and ticket availability for nearby theaters. In
addition, Fandango's mobile marketing services will allow studios and
marketers the ability to deliver mobile marketing campaigns to targeted
moviegoers, measuring the effectiveness of their campaigns through ticket
purchases.
Sprint is a data services company in the content and media distribution
business committed to delivering a seamless experience that gives customers
the power to connect, share and access information instantly on a mobile
phone. As wireless technology, consumer electronics and entertainment
converge, Sprint is leading the industry through innovative applications,
differentiated content and connectivity to consumers and businesses anywhere,
anytime and always on. By using their mobile phone as a source for
information, communications, personalization and entertainment, Sprint
customers can realize the power of the "third screen."
"Everyone in the wireless world is looking for that one relevant
application that will deliver on the promise of mobile entertainment," says
Art Levitt, President and CEO of Fandango. "We believe that this application
will be very popular and useful to all Sprint Nextel customers, whenever and
wherever they go. We're finding that moviegoers of all ages are using the
application to check reviews, showtimes and purchase tickets on their phones
and PDA's."
