Broadlane Chooses Good Technology Running on the Palm Treo Smartphone to Increase Productivity
SANTA CLARA -- Good Technology, Inc. (www.good.com), the leading provider of industry standards-based enterprise mobile computing software and service, today announced that Broadlane, the procurement services company for healthcare, has deployed a wireless messaging solution that includes GoodLink(TM) from Good Technology, Palm(R) Treo(TM) 650 smartphones, and carrier service on the nationwide Cingular Wireless EDGE network.
The integrated solution allows company executives, client care representatives and other employees to be more productive and responsive, giving Broadlane a competitive edge and helping to support and accelerate the company's rapid growth.
In the last 24 months, Broadlane has tripled the number of users in its procurement system and doubled the number of transactions on its Internet-based purchase order system. "We found that our BlackBerry system wasn't keeping pace with our growth," said Mike Howell, vice president of technology and architecture, Broadlane. "We needed a mobile computing solution that could provide more robust management and security, integrate with Microsoft Outlook, and take advantage of seemingly daily advances in wireless devices."
Broadlane took a phased approach to implementing a new solution. The company first switched from BlackBerry to GoodLink in November 2003. This gave employees mobile access to their Microsoft Outlook email, contacts and calendaring information making them more productive when they were out of the office.
As integrated devices became more reliable and compact, Broadlane evaluated smartphones from several manufacturers and selected the Palm Treo 600 because of the device's compact size and intuitive design, further increasing employee productivity. Broadlane initially deployed 200 Treo 600 smartphones in July 2003. Since then, the company has updated to the Palm Treo 650 smartphone and has deployed more than 250 devices.
The company also consolidated users on Cingular to support global communications, since many of Broadlane's employees travel internationally. Broadlane is currently using Cingular's 3G service for Broadband internet service on the road.
Since switching from BlackBerry, the new solution has provided significant benefits for the company, IT department and end users, including:
Lower costs/ROI: Broadlane has saved a considerable amount of money by
consolidating its service into a single bill and receiving a lower cost
per minute for voice and data service using Cingular. In addition,
Broadlane can expect a return on investment in less than two months
with the deployment of Palm Treo smartphones.(1)
Productivity: With Treo smartphones, Broadlane employees have
increased their productivity by enabling them to use their time away
from their desk and the office more effectively. Employees are able to
respond to email, voice calls, and voice mail faster.(2)
End-to-end security: With GoodLink, an administrator can remotely
"wipe" a device, erasing sensitive company information if a device is
lost or stolen, as well as remotely control passwords. In addition,
GoodLink secures data using AES-192 encryption from the time data is
sent to the time it is received, so company information remains secure.
Efficient set-up and upgrades: With GoodLink the IT department is more
efficient and effective. Using Good's secure Over-the-Air (Secure
OTA(TM)) technology, the IT team can easily set up and deploy devices
without requiring users to ever part with -- or IT to physically
touch -- devices. Additionally, critical utilities like virus
protection software can be distributed to handhelds and updated
over-the-air. This reduces the amount of time required to deploy new
devices and allows employees to be productive almost immediately.
Better supportability: Using the Good Monitoring Portal, the IT
department has real-time visibility to the overall enterprise wireless
computing system. They can see server status as well as the status of
individual handhelds including software version, handheld ROM version,
radio coverage and history, among others.
"Because GoodLink is based on industry standards, it allows companies to choose best-of-breed solutions from leading companies such as Palm and Cingular to create the most manageable, secure and reliable mobile computing solution available," said Terry Austin, President, Worldwide Sales and Marketing, Good Technology.
Enterprises in healthcare, legal, government, financial services, and other industries rely on the GoodLink/Treo solution for 24X7 access to email, calendar, contacts and other key business applications, including seven of the Fortune 10. Good Technology provides a powerful wireless messaging alternative on a broad choice of mobile devices with enterprise-class security, manageability, and a Network Operations Center-based service.
