WirelessDevNet.com Press Release

Colleges Find Success Providing Mobile Sports Using Lift Mobile from UsableNet

New York - September 29, 2006 - UsableNet, the leader in providing mobile and assistive web solutions to universities, corporations, and government agencies, today announced several leading colleges and universities have selected Lift Mobile to deliver their content—including live sports scores—to students, alumni, and fans over any web-enabled wireless device. UsableNet’s solution accomplishes this without requiring any client IT resources or the need to develop separate sites for mobile users.

“Our clients have found success in an opposite approach to that of Mobile ESPN that announced it is closing its doors at the end of the year. Lift Mobile allows our clients to extend their current sports web content such as scores, schedules, statistics, and news to any mobile device without the mobile user changing anything,” said Jason Taylor, Director of Mobile Products, UsableNet. “Many of our customers have several times the number of reported Mobile ESPN users while spending a fraction of the cost.”

For example, the University of Illinois has invested $25,000 with UsableNet to create access to their online content and services—including sports scores and news—from any mobile device. Since launching its mobile site at the beginning of September 2006, the university has already had more than 30,000 visitors. The University of Illinois mobile site took only four weeks to develop and required no IT resources from the university.

“ESPN struggled in its mobile endeavor because it needed to control the carrier, device, and content—a very expensive proposition that requires hundreds of thousands of users to make it profitable,” added Taylor. “The key to our clients success has been to leverage the web content and services they already have.”

Universities Using Lift Mobile from UsableNet
Lift Mobile allows content owners like universities and colleges to easily extend their content to mobile users on any web-enabled mobile device and on any network at no additional charge.

This allows large, mid-sized, and smaller colleges to quickly give students, alumni, and fans mobile access to their sports programs without the end user having to change anything.

UsableNet is already working with many universities and colleges across the U.S. One example of a large to mid-sized college is:
