Lenovo Chooses Sasken Application Framework for Feature Phones Based on TI OMAP-Vox (tm) Platform
Bangalore, April 10th, 07, Sasken Communication Technologies Limited - a leading player in wireless software solutions and a pioneer in communications R&D outsourcing - together with Lenovo Mobile, the leading Chinese OEM, announced today that the Sasken Application Framework has been chosen by Lenovo as its Application Solution of choice for development of feature phones based on the OMAP-Vox(tm) platform from Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI).
This announcement is the culmination of a close working partnership between the engineering teams of the two companies. As a result, the Sasken Application Framework has been successfully integrated onto the Lenovo mobile phone platforms based on TI's "LoCosto" and OMAP-Vox solutions. It provides Lenovo with a solution that is completely reusable and scalable across the entire range of Lenovo's portfolio of handsets on both the TI platforms.
Earlier this year, Sasken announced that its application framework had been integrated onto TI's "LoCosto" and OMAP-Vox platforms and forecasted that this would help mobile phone manufacturers to reduce time to market across their range of feature phones. This announcement with Lenovo is evidence of that success, the company said.
The Sasken Application Framework offers a highly advanced solution for rich media phones with features such as video record and play, audio-video streaming, Bluetooth(r) stereo headsets, touchpad with handwriting recognition, as well as messaging solutions and HTML browser, among other features.
The smart design and intelligence of the Sasken Application Framework leverages the strengths and scalability of TI's platforms and the phone design capabilities of Lenovo thereby delivering excellent media performance without the need for co-processors. Furthermore, the Sasken Application Framework will enable Lenovo to flexibly reuse software across phone designs and categories without losing either maturity or the ability to customise the look and feel to reflect the Lenovo brand.

The Sasken Application Framework is aimed at feature phones and empowers phone manufacturers to create differentiated mobile phones by enabling software reuse and portability across phone designs and platforms. The innovative and smart design, along with the extensive tool suite, simplifies the handset manufacturers' ability to add and remove features in accordance with the segment of the market that they wish to address with their phones. It enables OEM's and ODM's to customise the look and feel of the phones within short time spans without disturbing the underlying software logic. The solution leverages Sasken's proven strengths in multimedia and TI's powerful platforms architecture, enabling rich media experience on feature phones without the need for additional co-processors, thereby reducing the manufacturers' BOM cost.
Sasken also offers complete support scaling from design to launch.
