Nokia Siemens Networks signed contract for IPTV deployment in Poland

Nokia Siemens Networks has signed a contract with Dialog telecom to deliver and integrate an interactive TV and video-on-demand platform. The test installation will be rolled out this June and the commercial roll out is expected for end of this year.

Dialog telecom, one of the largest independent fixed-line telephony operators in Poland, has chosen Nokia Siemens Networks to deliver and integrate an IPTV-platform into Dialog’s network for interactive television and video-on-demand services. Nokia Siemens Networks will also supply the set-top boxes for the consumer homes to allow the new multimedia services to be used.

The IPTV solution extends Dialog’s existing portfolio. Subscribers will thus be able to create their own individual service package combining dedicated fixed-line telephony, internet access and innovative fixed-line digital television (IPTV).

Available features of the IPTV solution will include TV Pause (pause and start of the TV program being watched) or Digital VCR (which allows material to be recorded on-demand from a selected TV channel). Subscribers will be offered a wide range of TV channels grouped into packages (with different prices, number of channels and subject), or the channel will be available individually. In addition, the Video Rental feature will allow subscribers to rent movies from a library of several thousand movies to watch both the latest blockbusters as well as classic and connoisseur movies.

“Such a solution provides flexible conditions for cooperation with several content providers and full control over the final product, as well as the ability to tailor the offer both in terms of content and price”, says Grzegorz Mach, Member of the Management Board of Dialog telecom. “Nokia Siemens Networks gives us the opportunity to expand the scope of our services through this innovative platform, which will definitely attract new customers.”

“We are pleased that we will be deploying the IPTV Nokia Siemens Networks solution in Poland, too. This is an important step to introduce new competitive services for the Polish market,” says Thomas Werner, Head of the Business Line Applications, Nokia Siemens Networks.

Telecommunication market in Poland
The Polish telecommunication market is deregulated. Internet and telephone lines can be offered independently. Dialog telecom is the first operator in Poland to offer this type of independent internet connection, without the need to pay a telephone bill or line rental costs.
