Toshiba Adopts Red Bend’s vCurrent® Mobile Software

TOKYO, August 13, 2007 — Red Bend Software Japan KK (located in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo; President Kazuhiro Abe), the market leader in Mobile Software Management and Firmware-Over-the-Air (FOTA) update solutions for mobile phones and wireless modules, today announced that its vCurrent® Mobile FOTA software has been adopted by Toshiba Corp. for use in the WX320T handset for Japanese operator Willcom.

This is the second manufacturer to bring to market Red Bend-enabled mobile phones for PHS networks. The first was Japanese manufacturer JRC, announced in February 2007.

Already this year Red Bend’s vCurrent Mobile software has been used in a succession of mobile phone models from major manufacturers, including: the WX220J and WX321J handsets from JRC; the Sharp 812SH, 813SH and 813SH for Biz, 814SH, 815SH, 912SH and 913SH handsets for Softbank Mobile; and the NEC 706N, also for Softbank. Now, Toshiba has followed suit, using Red Bend’s FOTA solution for its latest PHS model, the WX320T. In all, since 2006 20 mobile phones have been launched in Japan with Red Bend’s vCurrent Mobile.

“Toshiba becomes the fourth Japanese handset manufacturer to adopt vCurrent Mobile, continuing our strong momentum in the Japanese market,” said Kazuhiro Abe, President of Red Bend Software Japan KK. “Japanese operators and manufacturers have been aggressive in their deployment of software updates over-the-air. Their selection of Red Bend can be attributed to the superior performance and reliability of our FOTA solution to reduce support costs and deliver new software features to mobile consumers.”

Red Bend’s patented vCurrent Mobile FOTA solution enables operators and manufacturers to quickly, securely and cost-effectively deliver firmware updates to mobile phones in consumers’ hands. Even if a power outage occurs during the update process, Red Bend’s Failsafe feature ensures successful completion. Red Bend’s vCurrent Mobile client software is fully compliant with Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) Device Management (DM) standards, and can be used with any OMA DM-compliant server.
