Palm Launches Treo 750 in Australia on Telstra Next G Network

SYDNEY, Australia, -- Palm, Inc. has announced the Palm Treo 750 smartphone in Australia, the first Treo smartphone to take advantage of Telstra's Next G network. The Treo 750 offers the world-class Palm experience on Microsoft's Windows Mobile 5.0 and includes High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) capability.

"The Treo 750 smartphone, which was introduced first in Europe and recently in the United States, continues to grow our global customer base," said John Hartnett, senior vice president, global markets, Palm, Inc. "The Treo 750, combined with Telstra's extensive Next G mobile network and various email solutions, will be an invaluable business tool for Telstra's enterprise customers and further expand the Treo footprint in Australia."

"The turbo-charged speeds on Telstra's Next G network supports the increased customer demand for content-rich business applications that help improve office mobility and productivity," said Deena Shiff, group managing director for Telstra Business. "Telstra is delivering on its commitment to provide a great range of devices to our customers on our Next G network."

The Treo 750 combines the hallmark Palm experience of a multifeatured mobile phone with email, messaging, web browsing and organisation software all in a new compact design. The new smartphone is HSDPA ready and comes with Microsoft's Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP) for Windows Mobile 5.0, which includes Direct Push Technology and enhanced security features free and out of the box.

"The Palm Treo 750 smartphone is a great mobile device. Its form factor is small enough to fit in my pocket but solid enough that I can easily use a range of functions, including the QWERTY keyboard and navigation buttons without any trouble," said, Darryl Warren, chief information officer, Lion Nathan. "What has impressed me most about the Treo 750 is its strong telephony support, which is well integrated and includes features such as voice and picture-dial. On the Treo 750, I am connected to Exchange Server 2007, which allows me to receive my emails on the go as well as sync my calendar and contacts amendments with my office environment. The Palm Treo 750 smartphone is my pick of the current pocket PC devices."

Palm Experience on Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phone Edition
The Treo smartphone on Windows Mobile 5.0 provides mobile workers with a unique productivity and multimedia experience while away from their PCs. Delivering a suite of software enhancements developed by Palm for the Windows Mobile environment, the Treo 750 provides people with fast access to information, ease of use and simplicity on their mobile device. Features include the following:

Today Screen enhancements, which offer the ability to "dial by name" with a few keystrokes on the keyboard, perform a web search directly from the Today Screen and perform one-touch dialling with personalized photo speed dials;

Ability to manage a call directly from the Today Screen and stay on top of voicemail with on-screen, VCR-like icons, such as rewind, delete and fast-forward controls for easy navigation;

Ability to ignore a call and quickly compose a text message, such as "In a meeting" or "Can't talk"; and Dedicated messaging application for SMS/MMS that is organized in a "chat thread" so users can reference prior messages and use emoticons for a personal touch.

"We're excited to work with Palm and Telstra to launch a new Windows Mobile-based Treo smartphone in Australia. The Windows Mobile platform is seeing significant adoption among business users, and the Treo smartphone provides another attractive proposition for organisations considering mobile deployments," said Grace Kerrison, director Mobile and Embedded Devices, Microsoft Australia. "The Treo 750 builds on the power and flexibility of Microsoft Windows Mobile, Palm's unique design and user experience, and service through Australia's leading mobile operator, to deliver a winning solution that connects professionals to their business-critical information while on the go."
