Valimo Wireless Files Two Patents Related to Mobile User Registration
HELSINKI, Finland – Valimo Wireless has filed two
patents related to its mobile signature and strong authentication
business.
The first patent concerns proof of possession for a specific SIM card,
assuring the highest level of certainty that a remote registration is
authentic. The second patent improves security of the credential
transport when faced with limited bandwidth.
“The methods covered in these patents simplify credential creation and
user registration, while increasing security and usability. Another
important feature of this technology is that SIM cards no longer need
credentials created at the factory. Now, this can be done over-the-
air, after distribution to the mobile subscribers.” explains Mikko
Virtanen, CTO at Valimo Wireless.
The two inventions have been implemented in the system architecture of
the Valimo Mobile Authentication Client (VMAC) and Valimo Registration
Server.
“Our flagship product Valimo Validator – MSSP, part of our mobile
signature solution, is based on the open ETSI – MSS (Mobile Signature
Service) standards,” says Virtanen. “And with these patents we are
claiming ownership of areas outside the MSS-scope, yet crucial for
deploying a best-of-breed MSS infrastructure.”
The VMAC is a mobile signature application for SIM cards and
is available under license to all SIM vendors.
Virtanen adds that, “the VMAC is a great opportunity to provide a
level playing field and support the industry to supply the necessary
components for mass-market mobile signature services. Valimo’s core
business is selling Valimo Validator – MSSPs. The VMAC is there to
provide a credible and inexpensive alternative to existing
proprietary client applications.”
