CTIA–The Wireless Association® Commends Progress on Internet Tax Legislation
WASHINGTON, DC – CTIA-The Wireless Association® issued the following statement today following the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law hearing on H.R. 743, the Internet Tax Freedom Act of 2007.
“CTIA-The Wireless Association® and the wireless industry want to recognize the leadership of Chairwoman Linda Sanchez (D-CA-39) and Ranking Member Chris Cannon (R-UT-3) in leading the vital effort to provide much-needed tax relief to millions of Americans. Today’s hearing on this important piece of bipartisan legislation is a clear indication of their commitment and dedication to ensuring all American wireless consumers have affordable access to the Internet.
“Chairwoman Sanchez and Ranking Member Cannon are rolling up their sleeves and working collaboratively with all interested stakeholders on the major issues associated with this legislation. While we strongly believe a permanent moratorium is in the best interests of all wireless consumers, determining whether any states should be grandfathered and clarifying congressional intent with respect to the definition of Internet access are also areas that need to be resolved.
“We are hopeful the House Commercial and Administrative Law Subcommittee moves forward next week with a markup of the legislation. CTIA encourages legislators to ensure American consumers affordable access to one of the world’s most powerful information tools by passing the Internet Tax Freedom Act on the House Floor when Congress reconvenes in September.”
