WirelessDevNet.com Press Release

Tekelec and HP Team with BEA Systems to Accelerate Deployment of IMS Services

MORRISVILLE, N.C.--Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC), a leading developer of high-performance network applications for next-generation fixed, mobile and packet networks, today announced the expansion of the HP-Tekelec Open IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) solution to include BEA WebLogic® SIP Server, a converged Java EE-SIP (Session Initiation Protocol)-IMS application server. The Open IMS solution, based on HP ATCA (Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture), is designed to accelerate the deployment of multimedia services in an IMS environment.

The addition of BEA WebLogic SIP Server1 provides a high-performance, available and powerful service creation and execution environment designed for converged Internet-IMS communication and collaboration services. The Open IMS solution also includes the Tekelec TekCore Session Manager (a call state control function (CSCF) platform), HP OpenCall home subscriber server (HSS), service enablers, multimedia applications, and integration with back-office and legacy systems to enable the delivery of subscriber-centric services across wireless, wireline and broadband networks.

Leveraging a variety of IMS service enablers running on top of the HP-Tekelec IMS infrastructure, the BEA solution is designed to provide a highly flexible, customizable and expandable services environment for Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), Network Equipment Providers (NEPs) and System Integrators (SIs) deploying revenue-generating voice, data and content services.

“The solution draws on the combined capabilities of highly respected companies, each widely recognized for communications technology and application infrastructure leadership,” said Ronald de Lange, president and general manager, Network Signaling Group, Tekelec. “We are ideally positioned to help organizations worldwide accelerate the rollout of innovative services by delivering a truly open, tested and pre-integrated IMS environment.”

“The addition of BEA significantly enhances the value of the open IMS solution that Tekelec and HP developed,” said Steve Dietch, director of worldwide marketing, OpenCall Software, HP. “The joint solution provides a cohesive, integrated infrastructure and service environment, delivered as a whole with expansion and enhancement options provided to meet or fit the service providers’ needs.”

The Open IMS solution is deployed in HP’s Experience Center in Richardson, Texas, for third-party application integration and testing, and it is expected to be commercially available with operators in North America later this year and globally in 2008.

“Carriers today continue to face concerns about decreasing sources of traditional revenue, rising infrastructure costs and declining customer loyalty,” said Mike McHugh, vice president and general manager of BEA WebLogic Communications Platform, BEA Systems. “To help address these challenges, the BEA WebLogic Communications Platform product family is designed to give carriers the ability to rapidly and cost-effectively implement innovative converged IT-telecom services.”

IMS Road Show with BEA Systems, HP, Intel, Tekelec and Third-party ISVs

BEA Systems has teamed with HP, Intel, Tekelec and third-party ISVs to create an “IMS Demo in a Box” road show. The “IMS Demo in a Box” environment is a portable, stand-alone system that is designed to be exhibited anywhere. The companies will demonstrate a number of IMS services from several leading IMS software venders.

The Open IMS solution is scheduled to be demonstrated at NXTcomm at Tekelec’s booth (#5915) and BEA’s booth (#1539).
