SkyCross Provides the Antenna for the Samsung BlackJack, Bestselling Smartphone in the USA
VIERA, Florida, May 1, 2007 — SkyCross, a global wireless company providing antenna-centric RF solutions, announced that the Samsung BlackJack, bestselling smartphone in the USA, contains a SkyCross antenna. The BlackJack is one of many landmark devices to use a SkyCross antenna to support next-generation services. Additional bestsellers include the Novatel Wireless cards offered by Sprint and Verizon Wireless, as well as several Samsung and Pantech handsets marketed in Korea.
SkyCross antenna technology provides handset manufacturers with the freedom to design sleek, feature-rich devices that operate on many frequency bands with a single, small antenna. For example, the BlackJack was the first smartphone with HSDPA connectivity in the USA. In addition, the SkyCross antenna in the BlackJack also covers quad-band GSM and Bluetooth. The distinctive BlackJack design has been recognized by the industry and consumers. The handset earned the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA) Wireless 2007 Emerging Technologies award for the smartphone/PDA category. In addition, the BlackJack was the number-one selling smartphone on Wirefly.com at the beginning of 2007, and Piper Jaffray reports the BlackJack topped smartphone sales at Cingular stores in March. According to Bloomberg News, Kim Titus, Samsung spokesman, said BlackJack sales are exceeding the company’s expectations.
