Mayrise Keeps Wokingham Highways Inspectors on the Road

Gloucestershire, UK, 22 May 2007 - Wokingham District Council has invested in a mobile highways inspection solution from Mayrise Systems. Running on Hewlett Packard iPAQ Pocket PCs, MAYRISE Mobile for Highways enables Council inspectors in the field to automatically identify, record and monitor highways defects, reducing paperwork, increasing service efficiency and improving customer care. Combined with centralised MAYRISE Highways software, the mobile system provides a complete end-to-end management solution for Wokingham Council Highways Division.

MAYRISE Highways is used to generate routine inspection schedules for the Council’s team of Highways Inspectors. Routes are downloaded onto the Council’ s mobile devices and staff in the field, using MAYRISE Mobile for Highways, identify, record and monitor highways defects using a series of drop down menus. Once completed, inspection results are uploaded to the central system which automatically generates works orders to the Council’s highways contractor, issues Nuisance and Obstruction notices to third parties and other Council departments and raises notices to relevant statutory undertakers.

“The end to end solution from Mayrise has reduced unnecessary paperwork and improved our service efficiency by an estimated 20%,” said Steve Potts, Senior Highway Operations Engineer. “Information captured in the field is now more accurate, more up to date and easier to use. Using MAYRISE I can create management reports, manage budgets and answer queries relating to the highway more efficiently than with previous systems.”

In addition Wokingham Council is using the MAYRISE management systems to improve the quality of their customer care and service. “All correspondence relating to the highway is logged using MAYRISE. Records of calls are entered into the system and letters are scanned and linked to a specific job. As a job progresses all subsequent information is entered into the system, giving total visibility of the work to date”.

Wokingham District Council is located in the historic Berkshire market town of Wokingham with nearby high tech business parks that are home to Microsoft, Panasonic and Oracle. The area extends to the banks of the River Thames, including part of the course for the Henley Regatta, and areas of woodland, heaths and secluded villages. The district covers nearly 18,000 hectares with a population of over 150,000 served by over 700 kilometres of road. As a mainly rural district with one of the highest car ownership levels in the country it is essential the Council maintains and improves the road infrastructure.
