Focus Enhancements Announces Availability of Its New Mobile TV Encoder

CAMPBELL, CA -- May 29, 2007 -- Focus Enhancements, Inc. (NASDAQ: FCSE), a worldwide leader in Ultra Wideband (UWB) wireless technology, video conversion and digital media, announced the availability of samples for its new mobile TV encoder chip, the FS•471/FS•472, optimized for battery operated, mobile media devices and features two very important advancements -- lower power usage and small foot print.

"Our priority for TV encoder products is to deliver industry leading TV-out image quality," said Michael Ngo, engineering vice president for Focus Enhancements' semiconductor group. "In addition, we put our efforts into ensuring the chip puts a minimal drain on battery life. At less than 5 micro amps current draw in sleep mode, we believe we have successfully met that challenge."

The FS•471/FS•472 is nearly 50 percent smaller than the company's previously available TV-out encoder chips, while still producing superior TV-out quality for both NTSC and PAL TV standards. Features include:

  • Optimized for battery powered, handheld applications -- under 130 milliwatts for one CVBS TV-out

  • Sleep current less than 5 µA

  • Small 5 mm X 5 mm Lead Free ball grid array package

  • Flexible scaling of video input resolutions from 220 X 176 to 1366 X 768

  • JTAG interface

  • Advanced 2D scaling and flicker filter

  • Macrovision 7.1L1 copy protection (FS472)

"The portable media market continues to be very dynamic and demanding," said Tom Hamilton, executive vice president and general manger of the semiconductor group at Focus Enhancements. "With each new product generation we look hard at our customers' requirements, and for these devices it's all about low power and small size. We believe samples of our new FS•47x chips will show our customers we heard their message and are delivering a product that fulfills their needs."
