Wyle Employees Receive Patent for Improving Phone Sound Quality
EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Nov. 28 -- Two Wyle employees have received a patent on a new evaluation and test process that has resulted in significantly improved sound quality of telephone products.
Joe Hazeltine, senior director for Wyle's Huntsville, Al.-based test operations, and Davin Lee, a project engineer at Wyle's Huntsville facility, received U.S. patent number 7,236,573, "Method and Apparatus for Testing Telephone Sound Quality" issued June 26, 2007.
The process involves generating a specific Pulse Tone Sequence which, when injected into the telephone, allows for rapid sound quality evaluation by a trained listener and/or standard lab equipment.
"This is a great example of how one of Wyle's longtime customers came to us to help them improve their product," said Hazeltine. "We helped our customer take their phone to first place from last place in blind audio tests, and receive an excellent voice quality and best buy rating from a leading consumer magazine. Our work was so effective that we filed for and were awarded a patent on our process."
Wyle, a privately held company, is a leader in providing high tech aerospace engineering, testing and research services to commercial, industrial and government customers. The company also provides life sciences services, special test systems and other technical support services to the aerospace, defense, nuclear power, communications, and transportation industries.
