NAVTEQ Wins Renewal Contract With the US Federal Government

CHICAGO, Oct. 22 -- NAVTEQ, a leading global provider of digital map data for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions (LBS), has been selected as a primary map data provider by the US Government. With this contract, NAVTEQ will continue to provide road network and standard points of interest data under a government-wide enterprise license to numerous government agencies supporting US Homeland Defense. Additionally, NAVTEQ(R) map data will continue to be licensed to state and local government agencies in order to help the federal, state, and local governments better synchronize planning and response for emergencies and natural disasters.

Since 2002, NAVTEQ has been working with the US Government on a variety of mission-critical applications in support of homeland security. NAVTEQ data is utilized in applications that assist with intelligence initiatives, disaster planning and recovery, evacuation planning, and event security. One application using NAVTEQ map data was instituted by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) National Operations Center. The application allows decision makers from multiple agencies to analyze suspicious activity and emergency response as well as monitor chemical plants, nuclear facilities, sporting and political events, and other key Homeland infrastructure with real-time map displays.

"We are pleased with the Government's continued use of NAVTEQ data as a primary map solution for Homeland Defense," remarked Roy Kolstad, Vice President and General Manager - Enterprise, NAVTEQ.
