TCS Introduces Innovative Text Messaging End User Control Features to U.S. Market
TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a leading provider of mission-critical wireless communications, today announced that the company has enhanced its Short Message Service Center (SMSC) solution to enable wireless carriers to deliver text messaging control features to their customers. These new features provide end users with the ability to manage both individual and family plans to best fit their unique requirements. U.S. wireless carriers are now introducing this solution to their customers.
This SMSC messaging control solution allows carriers to offer their subscribers the ability to set limits on the number of messages sent or received, set time of day restrictions for messaging use, create lists of "trusted" and "blocked" numbers as well as implement content filters. With these new options, wireless customers are now able to better manage SMS usage and understand if they are accruing additional costs.
According to the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA), SMS (Short Message Service) text messaging in the United States more than doubled over the last year. On July 29th, TCS affirmed this statistic by announcing that it had delivered a record 80 billion text messages across the U.S. during the first six months of 2008, equaling the total messages sent by the company in all of 2007. TCS technology was responsible for approximately 25 percent of the CTIA-reported total U.S. 363 billion messages sent in 2007.
"With the exciting growth of text messaging, our new end user control features allow wireless carriers to take a proactive stance at helping customers control and manage their text messaging habits," said Drew Morin, Chief Technical Officer at TCS. "This solution ultimately offers peace of mind to individual subscribers and owners of family accounts because they no longer have to worry about messaging limits being surpassed, especially if they do not have an unlimited text messaging plan. Further, it provides comfort to parents in knowing they can manage who their children communicate with and monitor how often and at what times they are texting. This is just another example of our commitment to supporting wireless carrier customers with forward-thinking text messaging solutions."
