New Technology Advances 911 Functionality in Wireless Industry
Greenwood Village, CO - VIXXI Solutions announced today that they have concluded testing of their Reverse Geo-Coder. The first-in-industry technology enables public safety answering points (PSAPs) to receive address information of wireless emergency callers, without costly investment in a mapping system. VIXXI's Reverse Geo-Coder works by obtaining a device's x, y, and z coordinates from either its GPS or PDE signal, working both indoors and out, and reverse-codes that point into the closest physical address of the caller and sends it with the data record to the PSAP.
The technology is revolutionary because while today's wireless E911 technology uses some form of radiolocation to route emergency calls to the correct PSAP, no physical address location is actually provided to the operator within the data record. If a PSAP does not have a mapping system for those unable to tell an operator their location due to the nature of the emergency, this functionality can literally save lives. Also, the technology can generate a map with a breadcrumb trail, so that if a caller is moving and approaching the boundary of a new PSAP jurisdiction, the current PSAP can apply that information for optimal emergency response.
To prevent any risk associated with approximate address information, PSAPs have the choice whether or not to receive the address information, or an advisory can be sent with the address information in the remarks column.
