WirelessDevNet.com Press Release

KORE Network to Deliver Cellular Backhaul Services for U.S. Navy and Marine Corps

Reston, VA - KORE Telematics, the world’s largest digital wireless services provider specializing in machine-to-machine (M2M) communications, today announced that AMERICAN SYSTEMS, a government and commercial IT solutions provider and one of the top 100 employee-owned companies in the U.S., selected KORE as a teaming partner to help power the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) solutions they will deliver to the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps at bases and stations worldwide.

Listed on the U.S. Government GSA schedule for access by U.S. Federal, State and Local government customers, the KORE wireless network supports a wide variety of applications for government and commercial customers including: advanced metering and smart grid, fleet and cargo tracking, freight and valuable asset security, streaming video and image transmissions from security cameras, sensor networks for a variety of applications and the location of personnel and equipment for daily or emergency coordination and optimized deployments.

Where metering deployment requires comprehensive cellular backhaul capabilities, AMERICAN SYSTEMS will rely on the KORE network to remotely collect and monitor energy usage data in Navy and Marine Corps buildings worldwide. Built for the highest reliability and most efficient data transfer, the KORE network transmits data in real time or on demand for analysis and management to maximize mission success. The deployment will facilitate measuring and analyzing energy usage aimed at reducing energy consumption through the strategic allocation of energy resources.

This next generation energy management solution enables the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps to comply with energy reduction requirements mandated by the Energy Policy Act of 2005 on time and budget. With this approach, the Navy and Marine Corps can cost-effectively allocate and manage electricity, gas, steam and water commodities, ensuring efficient utilization of these resources on a global basis.

“With the industry’s most reliable, flexible and cost-effective wireless connectivity for M2M applications, KORE powers some of the most successful AMI deployments in use today to help government and commercial organizations drive down energy usage and costs,” said Alex Brisbourne, president and COO, KORE Telematics. “KORE network solutions are designed to support just the sort of robust, customized offerings an innovative solutions provider like AMERICAN SYSTEMS brings to their customers. We look forward to working with AMERICAN SYSTEMS to help the U.S. Navy and the Marine Corps make informed decisions about their energy usage in order to meet their aggressive energy efficiency missions.”

“One of the key requirements of the advanced metering initiative is the deployment of metering devices that can remotely monitor data on a facility’s use of steam, water, gas and electricity,” said James McDonnell, vice president, AMERICAN SYSTEMS. “We selected the KORE network because of its ability to provide coverage for both GSM and CDMA networks as well as its ability to support Navy bases located outside of the U.S. KORE cellular backhaul services can enable government facility managers to collect data remotely for a large number of meters that will be installed across Navy bases worldwide to make informed decisions about their energy usage and meet their aggressive energy efficiency goals.”

The Department of Navy’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure Program is managed by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) for the Commander Naval Installations Command (CNIC). The AMI initiative facilitates the measuring and analyzing of energy usage to help optimize energy resource allocation. The program demonstrates the Navy’s commitment to achieving the energy efficiency goals outlined in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPACT), which mandates that federal agencies install advanced metering devices that provide daily usage data across all installations.

In addition to network flexibility and reliability, AMERICAN SYSTEMS selected KORE for its ability to support OCONUS (Outside Contiguous United States) service needs through the m2mGlobal® Alliance, a pioneering initiative to provide seamless wireless connectivity on a worldwide basis. As a founding member of the m2mGlobal Alliance, KORE addresses the needs of North American M2M solutions providers that want to quickly and easily expand into overseas markets previously only available through roaming or individual agreements that can be expensive to support.

KORE is the only provider with direct, reliable connectivity to the extensive CDMA and GSM networks of Tier 1 carriers. Its M2M network service offerings span the globe, serving the entirety of North America (U.S., Canada and Mexico), more than any single carrier, and internationally with more than 415 carrier partners in 180 countries, reaching across continents. In addition, KORE provides its solution partners with a full suite of management capabilities, enabling real-time control of their networked devices, automated activations, monitoring of usage and alarms, and more, via the KORE PRISM™ gateway platform.
