Numerex Satellite-based Tag Receives HERO Certification for the Department of Defense

Atlanta, GA - December 16, 2008 - Numerex Corp. (Nasdaq: NMRX), a leading provider of full-service, highly secure machine-to-machine (M2M) network services and solutions, today announced the successful completion of rigorous testing of its SX1 satellite tracking device under the Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with US Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM). Following such Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordnance, or HERO, testing, Numerex received HERO certification, which, together with successful environmental testing, clears the way for any military agency to procure SX1 satellite tracking tags.

The SX1 met or exceeded 16 methods within the MIL-STD 810F requirements during the first phase of testing at the UNICOR test laboratory in Littleton, Colorado, making it the most rugged satellite tracking tag available today. This included a variety of environmental tests designed to emulate theater of operation conditions including desert, jungle, arctic and other extreme climates. Methods included temperature extremes, shock and vibration, humidity and water integrity testing among others.

Phase two consisted of HERO testing at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Virginia, where the SX1 received the highest certification rating available, Zero separation distance from Ordnance. HERO testing ensures safe operation in close proximity to ordnance present in munitions containers per applicable Department of Defense standards 6055.09. All electromagnetic transmitting devices that will operate in close proximity to ordnance must pass the HERO testing.

"Meeting the extensive list of stringent test requirements of the Department of Defense demonstrates to vendors and governmental agencies that the SX1 is the most cost effective, ruggedized, military grade, all-terrain satellite tracking solution available today and is capable of operating under the harshest environmental conditions," stated Mike Marett, chief operating officer of Numerex.

The exceptional testing results, coupled with SX1's existing Premium Service Device rating from USTRANSCOM, validate the ruggedness of the SX1 as the first military grade satellite tracking solution under this program. Military and enterprise agencies can cost-effectively track assets around the world regardless of the environment, with the certainty that the device will withstand extreme conditions. Phase three includes operational testing in a real world military environment and should be completed in the first quarter of 2009.
