The Mobile Channel Conference Tackles Issues Of Mobile Internet Adoption and Search at CTIA Wireless

Washington, DC – CTIA WIRELESS 2008ฎ, the premier global event representing the $500 billion global wireless industry, has announced that Cary Tilds, senior vice president of Team Detroit, will deliver the keynote address for its Marketing – The Mobile Channel Conference taking place Monday, March 31 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Room N107. The international CTIA WIRELESS 2008 trade show and conference takes place April 1 – 3.

The bi-annual conference will highlight marketing applications available via mobile devices, address new ways to implement or enhance mobile marketing strategies, and demonstrate how companies are taking advantage of new opportunities to engage customers through this medium. For the past four years, Marketing – The Mobile Channel has attracted hundreds of executives representing the marketing and advertising industries, as well as those with technology and operational functions within the wireless industry.

"This is the age of interactive communication between consumers and brands," said Robert Mesirow, CTIA vice president and show director. "This conference highlights the creativity and effectiveness that goes along with mobile marketing campaigns. More than 250 million people in the U.S. have their mobile devices always on, and always nearby – that's a powerful audience – and the brands that succeed in reaching this audience are doing so by keeping their methods and the messages unique."

The opening keynote address, Understanding Online Search, will be delivered by Cary Tilds, senior vice president of Team Detroit, an advertising conglomerate comprising a joint venture of JWT, Y&R, Wunderman, Ogilvy and Group M companies Mediaedge and Mindshare. Tilds will address the emergence of the mobile Internet, how it will affect consumer behavior and what that means for brands, agencies and consumers. Tilds is the head of digital media operations, where her role is to provide thought leadership as well as technical specialty to lead Team Detroit's media planning, buying, optimization and analytics functions. She currently serves as chairperson for the AAAA's Search Marketing Committee and is a council/advisory board member for Google, Yahoo!, MSN and DoubleClick.

"Our clients look to us to provide innovative ideas for reaching consumers in new ways," commented Tilds. "New developments in mobile search and digital content, coupled with a solid understanding of the mobile consumer's behavior, will provide the foundation for this address. I am thrilled to be a part of CTIA's high-level conference program this year and look forward to networking and sharing new ideas with my peers."

A number of exciting sessions will make up Marketing – The Mobile Channel at CTIA WIRELESS, highlights include:

  • Rock the Vote: Winning the White House with Wireless – For the first time in our country's history, it is the non-voice capabilities of the mobile phone that are impacting the race for the White House. Learn how mobile messaging and social networking has changed the way candidates fundraise and promote their campaigns during elections; how mobile marketing serves as a cost effective way for campaigns and fundraisers; and how to penetrate local markets that may not be reached with the other forms of technology.

  • Ties that Bind, Linking Traditional Media Channels and Mobile – A look at some of the most innovative and highly effective campaigns; the hottest new ideas driving mobile interaction; and avoiding the challenges that accompany mobile implementations.

  • The Power of Viral Marketing – Customer testimonials have been used for years as a method for driving consumer adoption of products and services. In the mobile age and the convenience of digital content, it is possible that our connectivity to any type of content is but a friend away. A team of experts will evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of being well connected.

  • Managing the Sale of Mobile Content – Mobile content developers are challenged with serving multiple market segments each with diverse buying characteristics. This session will explore the essential components of selling content most critical to sustainability; including what makes some content easier to sell in bundles versus a la cart; the use of analytics to customize content; and how discovery can hinder the process.

  • Mobile Marketing: Building Brand Equity or Pure Sales Opportunity? – Marketing at its core is focused on building brand equity and/or driving sales revenue. Panelists in this session will debate whether traditional rules apply when implementing mobile marketing concepts within a campaign – or if the creation of a completely new standard is taking place.

  • Increasing Engagement: Mobile Retailing/Couponing – The mobile device is a complete marketing tool with capabilities to capture additional information relative to the end user. Concepts related to mobile retailing and couponing all point to "immediacy of interaction" and the possible increase of spontaneous consumption patterns from consumers engaged by brands at exactly the right moment. This session will explore the best methods for consumer engagement and response in target rich environments, and how consumer package goods and other services are using mobile to make the connection.

  • The Carrier Point-of-View – Wireless service providers must adapt to numerous market changes in order to remain competitive. In recent months, a number of changes have threatened to completely disrupt the existing paradigm for envisioning, creating and implementing mobile initiatives. Carriers will discuss first hand the impact these changes have on their strategy for mobile marketing, as well as the future for mobile initiatives in U.S. markets and emerging trends.
