Town of Cary, NC Delivers Critical Crime Information with Pitney Bowes MapInfo Location Intelligence

Troy, NY — Pitney Bowes MapInfo, the leading global provider of location intelligence solutions, today announced that the Town of Cary, North Carolina is utilizing Pitney Bowes MapInfo location intelligence solutions to power its interactive crime statistics web site. The crime map section at Maps Online is available at www.townofcary.org and enables citizens to instantly view the types and locations of crimes that have occurred across the entire town. The crime map section was developed with MapXtreme® software, which enables current and prospective residents to get instantaneous access to recent and historical crime data in a very efficient, visual format.

Cary, a community located adjacent to Raleigh and the renowned Research Triangle Park, developed the crime map section at Maps Online to reduce the time spent filling crime map requests and to offer crime data requests in real time. The interactive site enables visitors to enter a specific address and request information on crimes occurring within the past year and up to a one mile radius from the requested address.

The virtual map then displays unique icons for each of the 21 different types of crimes documented, including categories such as burglaries, larcenies and motor vehicle thefts. The site also allows users to search crime statistics for specific dates within the last month, three months, six months and up to a year, helping people moving into the Town of Cary to quickly identify the safest neighborhoods.

“Prior to rolling out our crime map section on Maps Online, requests for reports went directly to the Cary police department clerks,” said Mike Mull, applications manager, Town of Cary. “With Pitney Bowes MapInfo location intelligence solutions, we can consolidate crime data into an easy to understand digital map of crime statistics that is accessible to users around the clock. With real-time access, users can become informed citizens and even take an active role in the town’s crime prevention.”

“The Town of Cary crime map site demonstrates the power of location intelligence technology as a highly effective analysis tool and as a communications mechanism for sharing important data with constituents,” said Tom Myers, global product manager, developer tools, Pitney Bowes MapInfo. “From determining what neighborhood is safest, to learning about what crimes occurred near schools in a certain neighborhood, Pitney Bowes MapInfo solutions enable residents to get immediate access to information that impacts their daily lives.”

In addition to the crime map application, Maps Online offers sections that keep residents informed of new developments, seasonal town services and special projects. The Town of Cary’s Maps Online web site is designed and hosted by JCH GeoInfo Solutions, Inc., a Pitney Bowes MapInfo partner.
