AvMap selects Siano as Mobile TV enabler for Connected GPS devices

Amsterdam - September 10, 2008 – Leading mobile TV chip maker Siano Mobile Silicon (www.siano-ms.com) announced today that it has been selected by AvMap, pioneers of GPS navigation, to provide mobile TV functionality for its Geosat 6. The first customer for the mobile TV enabled Geosat 6 device is the Peugeot 207 Energie Sport car model.

Based on Siano’s leading mobile TV receiver and antenna chips, the Geosat offers high quality in-car mobile TV entertainment: unparalleled mobile TV reception extending to rural areas and high mobility performance that will support MDTV whilst travelling at high speeds, eliminating the need for external antennae. Developed for Peugeot Automobili Italia, Geosat 6 Phone TV concentrates in one device an unequalled set of features in addition to Mobile TV: advanced GPS navigation, a tri-band GSM phone, alcohol test and multimedia player functions. The device will also feature digital maps and content from Tele Atlas.

"Customers such as Peugeot demand high quality mobile TV reception – that will receive the latest in television entertainment even when travelling at high speeds” commented Simone Lazzarini, AvMap’s CEO. “In seeking a mobile TV chip partner for the ‘Geosat’, we chose the highest performing mobile TV solution on the market: Siano – and are very happy with the results.”

Alon Ironi, CEO of Siano, added, “As the mobile TV market hits its much anticipated hyper curve, in-car entertainment – namely all-in-one "combo" mobile devices - will represent a sizable chunk of this market. Working with leading navigation company AvMap in supplying world-class brands such as Peugeot with MDTV is testament to the quality and high-performance of our chips. We envision that both mobile TV and GPS will become integral components of every car within just a few years, and we have developed MDTV chips with unprecedented mobility performance to support this trend.”

The Geosat 6 Phone TV is presented this week at the IBC conference in Amsterdam, at Siano's booth (booth number 592 in the mobile zone).
