WirelessDevNet.com Press Release

RealVNC launches VNC Mobile Solution

At this month's Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona, RealVNC will be announcing its new VNC Mobile Solution that delivers remote control capabilities for mobile devices. VNC Mobile Solution now makes it possible for developers to build applications that can remotely control and manage any number of mobile devices or applications, anywhere in the world. Existing system administration, device management, support and test applications can all be enhanced by incorporating VNC remote control capabilities.

VNC Mobile Solution is supplied as a Software Development Kit (SDK). It comprises a specialized VNC Server that runs on the mobile device and a specialized VNC Viewer that controls the mobile device remotely from a desktop. Both are packaged as modules to enable application developers to incorporate VNC functionality quickly and easily into their existing application, with their own look-and-feel. The VNC Server is small, efficient and portable, and can be easily adapted to run on virtually any mobile platform. VNC Mobile Solution will be available initially on Symbian, Windows Mobile and Blackberry platforms in 2009 Q2, with support for other platforms to follow later in the year.

VNC Enterprise Edition already provides a powerful, secure and robust, cross-platform remote control solution for Windows, UNIX and Mac, allowing one computer to take full control of another, regardless of operating system or location. In addition, many application and tools vendors have enhanced their offerings by embedding VNC functionality directly into their own products.

As mobile devices become more sophisticated and IP connectivity to them improves, they are increasingly being used to perform core business functions alongside, or even instead, of desktop machines. VNC Mobile Solution now provides software developers with the ability to control mobile devices and the applications running on them remotely. Vendors of mobile tools, such as mobile device management applications, can enhance their offerings with VNC interactive remote control and support. Vendors of enterprise systems management applications can extend their applications to support mobile devices using VNC Mobile Solution.

"IT departments and third-party support organizations are facing the challenge of managing and supporting the growing cloud of mobile devices and applications," said Dr Andy Harter, CEO at RealVNC. "They also want integrated tools and solutions that enable them to manage all their devices in the same way. VNC Mobile Solution enables the tools that they already use to be extended seamlessly so that they can take control of a mobile device anywhere in the world, remotely configure or troubleshoot a problem, and offer remote assistance and training on how to use the device and its applications."

Please visit RealVNC on stand number 2.1D56(2-1) at Mobile World Commerce from 16-19 February in Barcelona.
