Absolute Software Announces Support for SkyWave LRIT System

Cambridge, MA and Ottawa, Canada – Absolute Software Inc., a provider of solutions to monitor the location of mobile assets worldwide, in association with PSC Holdings Group, announced today that their joint venture, Absolute Maritime Tracking Services (AMTS), intends to support the SkyWave DMR-800LRIT terminal for use in Long Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT). AMTS is the provider of the National Data Center (NDC) and the Application Service Provider (ASP) to Panama, the world’s largest merchant maritime registry.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) LRIT regulations make vessel location and identity a mandatory requirement for almost 50,000 vessels worldwide; including over 8,000 ships flying the flag of Panama that will be monitored by AMTS.

“Our prime objective in supporting the DMR-800LRIT is to give ship owners greater choice in their selection of LRIT compliant shipboard equipment” says Jeff Douglas, Director for Absolute Software.

Developed in accordance with the regulations set out in the IMO’s resolution MSC.264(84), the SkyWave DMR-800LRIT terminal is a standalone unit pre-configured for LRIT. Built on SkyWave’s proven reliability in ship security (SSAS) and vessel monitoring systems (VMS), the terminal is an economical option for ship owners needing to retrofit existing systems. As a complementary technology to existing installed equipment, the DMR-800LRIT terminal on the SkyWave IsatM2M network assures compliance at a low cost.

“Ship owners are responsible for the costs associated with bringing their vessels into compliance, and we are sensitive to this issue,” says Dan Poirier, Senior VP of Sales & Marketing for SkyWave. “Our DMR-800LRIT terminal and LRIT system were built to enable hassle-free compliance at a minimal cost.”

The SkyWave LRIT system is built for use on the SkyWave IsatM2M network service, an enhanced mode of the globally-accepted Inmarsat D+ network optimized for position and status reporting. For more information on the SkyWave DMR-800LRIT terminal, visit www.SkyWave.com/lrit.php.
