Virgin Media Launch New Mobile Internet Portal With Mobile Commerce’s RoundU local Search Service

Virgin Media has launched a new mobile internet portal, available for all UK mobile users, featuring the RoundU local search service provided by Mobile Commerce, the UK’s leading provider of location-based services (LBS).

RoundU is free to use and integrates handset location with a comprehensive range of local information. Using listings aggregated from Mobile Commerce’s partners including toptable, Itchy Guides and The Press Association, the service brings a full range of the latest UK arts and entertainment content straight to the handset, as well as complete Thomson business listings.

The user can find and book tickets for the local cinema, secure a restaurant table, read local gig reviews, find a hotel room and even the nearest cash machine or petrol station, just by using a simple menu on their handset, whenever and wherever they want. This is all combined with fully optimised and constantly updated Multimap mapping, so information is always up to the minute and the user can locate their choice of venue with ease.

Mobile Commerce CEO, Steve Page, said: “This is very exciting partnership for us, and to be working with such a large and respected high profile, company as Virgin Media - with 10 million customers - is something we’re relishing. Our RoundU service is designed to meet the demands of people’s ever busier lives. Not only do we have over 11,000 recommended drinking and dining venues and 1.9 million business search listings but the service is integrated with our ad server, so it can be monetised with relevant advertising and sponsorship. I’m proud that this deal is another endorsement of our leadership in mobile content aggregation and location based search.

About Mobile Commerce
Founded in 1999, Mobile Commerce is the UK’s most successful provider of search and location solutions for the mobile telecommunications industry.

Mobile Commerce has been operating managed services to Tier One Mobile Operators since February 2002 and is the UK’s leading provider of Local Search services on mobile. Current customers include Vodafone, O2, T-Mobile, Orange, Microsoft and Sony Ericsson.

A growing element of Mobile Commerce’s core business model is the development of monetised search using paid listings. Mobile Commerce now offers a Monetised Mobile Search solution connecting mobile users with advertisers. This generates additional revenue for the network operators through off-portal traffic and gives advertisers distribution.

Mobile Commerce is now providing content and creative services to the UK mobile network operators and other major brands, over SMS, Mobile Internet, Java & iPhone, and is at the forefront of developing innovative packages that will be instrumental in driving additional revenue streams for network and brand partners.

In October 2008 Mobile Commerce was named in Deloitte’s top 50 fastest growing UK tech companies - one of the UK’s foremost technology award programmes, ranking the country’s 50 fastest-growing technology companies based on percentage growth over five years.
