TeleCommunication Systems Announces Bundled Location-Based Solution for Wireless Carriers
TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a leading provider of mission-critical wireless communications, today announced the immediate availability of a fully integrated hosted solution that provides Carriers with multiple location-based applications and the supporting network infrastructure. The comprehensive, hosted solution enables carriers to more easily offer customers the highest revenue-generating location-based services (LBS) available on the market today.
According to a 2009 report from ABI Research, a market intelligence company specializing in global connectivity and emerging technology, TCS is the second largest vendor of LBS infrastructure in the world and is uniquely positioned to capitalize on the growth of carrier LBS infrastructure investments projected to reach $2.2 billion by 2013. As demand for LBS services increases, the hosted location-based solutions provided by TCS can be used by carriers to generate new revenue opportunities while reducing capital expenditure requirements and internal deployment costs. The hosted technology model also more closely matches revenue to expenses.
Carrier customers benefit from the following proven TCS location-based services platform infrastructure:
- TCS People Locator provides consumers with the option to securely share their location with family and friends, and to obtain other location-based information such as Points-of-Interest (POI). A unique feature to TCS People Locator is the capability for consumers to create Geo-zones that alert them when a family member or friend has entered or exited a particular geographic area (e.g. school, home, nearby).
- TCS Asset Locator is a low-cost, on-demand mobile resource management solution for small and medium-sized businesses (SMB) that rely on a mobile field workforce. This mobile handset solution enables wireless carriers to offer the growing SMB market a Web-based solution that enables managers and dispatchers to easily view the location of field workers using the embedded GPS technology in a cell phone, and see their current and past locations in a browser-based application.
- TCS Navigator provides voice-enabled, hands-free, turn-by-turn directions from a wireless phone or smart phone and includes real-time traffic information, plus voice input for address entry, directory look-up for POI and a core set of personal navigation services.
- TCS Maps and Directions is a mobile application that allows users to look up a location by category or business name and provides maps, directions and contact information.
"TCS pioneered the world's first wireless location platform in 1996, has deployed and supported commercial LBS infrastructure in leading carriers since 2002, and is now one of the world's leading providers of location applications and infrastructure," said Drew Morin, TCS Chief Technology Officer. "We believe that by offering a complete end-to-end solution that integrates award-winning applications supported by our proven location infrastructure, carriers can better meet customer LBS demands as this nascent market grows. These applications will set carriers apart from the competition while adding significant revenue at a much lower risk."
TCS has made a substantial commitment in resources to LBS, having invested over $140 million in funding for the development of platforms and applications. Earlier this year, TCS acquired LocationLogic, further positioning the company as a leading global LBS player.
