TeleCommunication Systems Successfully Completes NENA's Next-Generation 9-1-1 Interoperability Tests
TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (TSYS 5.00, -0.13, -2.58%) , a world leader in highly reliable and secure mobile communication technology, today announced the successful completion of Next-Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) interoperability tests with its Legacy Network Gateway (LNG), Emergency Services Routing Proxy (ESRP), Emergency Call Routing Function (ECRF), and Location Information Server (LIS). These tests were conducted at the second National Emergency Number Association (NENA) Industry Collaboration Event (ICE) held recently at the AT&T Center for Learning in Irving, TX with additional technical support provided by Texas A&M University.
This event (ICE 2) is part of a program that allows vendors to test the interoperability of their products. These events bring together vendors in an open, supportive, and collaborative environment that fosters a spirit of technical cooperation. The goal of these NG9-1-1 Industry Collaboration Events (NG9-1-1 ICE) is to support all vendors in achieving fully interoperable systems.
"TCS is actively involved with the NENA i3 standards development as well as with the ongoing activity of NENA's Industry Collaborative Events which provide an opportunity to prove out these important NG9-1-1 standards," said Dan Allen, senior vice president of service bureau for TCS. "We are confident that in the next nine months NENA will have the 'go-live' NG9-1-1 standard and that TCS will have developed all of the Emergency Services IP Network service nodes in support of that standard."
TCS' NG9-1-1 solution complies with the NENA i3 standard to accept incoming emergency requests from both IP and PSTN based end users and to deliver the voice calls, text, files, video and data to the correct public safety answering point (PSAP). The solution also bridges the gap between NENA's i3 standard and current E9-1-1 systems, for example, by allowing continued use of a tabular MSAG and the traditional ALI database queries. TCS expands 9-1-1 features with call overflow options and by delivering new communications technologies to both IP and PSTN based PSAP equipment.
The TCS NG9-1-1 solution supports local deployment of licensed systems for a state, county, or local exchange carrier. It can also be a hosted service using TCS' geo-redundant data centers. Additionally, TCS supports a hybrid model where some NG9-1-1 components are licensed and others are hosted, and if required, TCS can supply individual components in the NENA i3 architecture.
