WirelessDevNet.com Press Release

OpenFeint Launching Single Sign-On for Social Games as a Replacement for UDID

OpenFeint, the world’s largest mobile social gaming network with 115 million users, today announced that it's launching a single sign-on system for social game developers to replace UDIDs on iOS. Available later this fall, OpenFeint single-sign on will allow developers to onboard users who choose to opt in with just one click. It also gives developers access to OpenFeint's OFUID, a universal account system for OpenFeint’s cross-platform users.

By using OFUID to create user accounts developers gain access to an already established account system, saving the time required to build it in-house. With access to the OFUID, by user consent, developers can then examine and analyze user behavior across games, helping to improve targeting efforts and application features.

“With the deprecation of UDID, social game developers need access to a universal method for identifying and delivering services to their users," said Jason Citron, founder and CEO of OpenFeint. "Available to 115 million gamers at launch, OFUID will offer that reach and improve on it by giving users a way to share information with game developers, if they so choose."
OpenFeint also announced an install trade program for developers that use the new sign-on process. OpenFeint will guarantee developers 1.5 new installs for every new install of Game Channel, an app that is needed for users to enjoy the benefits of single sign on.

“Sign-on with OFUID is incredibly flexible and has been designed to reduce sign up friction for games," said Ethan Fassett, SVP of Product at OpenFeint. "Developers will be able to make sign-on optional at first launch and can display it later if they choose. Game developers will also be able to incentivize the sign-on process, offering users rewards for signing in or setting up accounts.”

Single sign-on with OFUID will launch later this fall. Social game developers interested in learning more about single sign on should visit the OpenFeint developer website.
