Smartphones and Tablets are Driving the Mobile Market in Taiwan, Pyramid Finds

Cambridge, Massachusetts - August 30,2011 - A rapid adoption of mobile computing devices in Taiwan, from smartphones to tablets and netbooks, are the main reason behind an expected 15.9% CAGR in mobile data service revenue between 2011 and 2016, according to a new report from Pyramid Research(www.pyr.com).

Taiwan: Smartphones and Tablets Drive the Mobile Market offers a precise profile of the country's telecommunications, media and technology sectors based on proprietary data from Pyramid's research in the market. It provides detailed competitive analysis of both the fixed and mobile sectors, tracks the market shares of technologies and services and monitors the introduction and spread of new technologies.

"In 2011, Taiwan's mobile ARPS will fall 3% in local currency terms from 2010's NT$658 ($20.78) to NT$636 ($21.75), in large part driven by drops in voice telephony tariffs," indicates Daniel Yu, Associate Manager, Asia-Pacific at Pyramid Research. In 2012, Pyramid expects ARPS to begin increasing again, reaching NT$653 ($23.85) by 2016.

The rising adoption of smartphones in Taiwan and the associated increase in the use of advanced data services will contribute to this increase. Chunghwa Telecom and Taiwan Mobile report smartphone ARPS levels of NT$1,261 ($43.10) and NT$1,659 ($56.70) in Q1 2011, respectively – more than twice each operator's overall ARPS levels. "Given the impact smartphones can have on ARPS, it is no surprise that all of Taiwan's operators have been focusing on promoting smartphone and other mobile computing devices in 2011," Yu adds.

Taiwan: Smartphones and Tablets Drive the Mobile Market is part of Pyramid Research's Asia-Pacific Country Intelligence Report Series and is priced at $990. Download the excerpt or purchase the report here.
