Verizon Wireless Deploys Resources To Minot, North Dakota, To Assist Residents Impacted By Flooding

To assist the more than 10,000 residents who have fled their homes due to the flooding of the Souris River in Minot, N.D., Verizon Wireless has deployed resources to augment wireless communications, network capacity and coverage in the Minot area.

The Verizon Wireless Crisis Response Team has been active in the area, and the company has deployed the following resources:

  • The network team has added 55 per cent capacity to cell sites in the Minot area and is monitoring the network 24/7.
  • The company has staged a temporary cell site, known as a Cell on Wheels (COW), and will activate the COW once a site is finalized to further augment network capacity.
  • The team has distributed more than 125 wireless devices to the North Dakota National Guard and American Red Cross serving the area.
  • Employees are staffing a Crisis Communications Center in a 16-foot trailer in the parking lot at the Wal-Mart, located at 3900 S. Broadway St., in Minot.  The Crisis Communications Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. offering free Internet access, phone calls and charging stations for customers to charge their wireless devices.

The Verizon Wireless Crisis Response Team works closely with emergency management officials to support recovery efforts. The company’s commitment to network reliability, business continuity and disaster preparedness has proven critical during and after past hurricanes and other disasters.
