Telmap Launches Optus Go Places in Australia
Telmap, pioneers in mobile location-based services, announces today the launch of Optus Go Places, a mobile location-based service that is based on Telmap’s Mobile Location Companion, especially designed to accompany users throughout their on-the-go experience, going beyond in-car and pedestrian navigation.
Optus Go Places is the first mobile application to incorporate Telmap’s unique and new layout of its mobile location companion. This new layout represents a new approach to location-based services, and it is designed to optimize the interaction with people and places around us. Telmap, observing users’ usage patterns, realized that users today look for more than just navigation from their location-based services. Therefore, Optus Go Places, no longer opens with a map, but with a new opening screen that gives users the opportunity to start their on-the-go experience with searching for the most relevant content, via a layout of widgets, which serves as the application’s home screen. This approach supports the concept of giving users direct and immediate access to all they may want and need in order to find, explore and interact with places, and people around them. After choosing the widget that represents the type of content a user is interested in, they can choose from a variety of actions that’s available to them, with full turn-by-turn navigation and map view being among these options, naturally.
Using this new approach, Optus can also highlight content and bring it to users’ attention. This new opening screen can also be personalized by users who can dynamically customize it via an add/remove widget.
In addition, Optus Go Places features electronic vouchers offering discounts for thousands of Australian restaurants, listed by Frequent Values by Entertainment™. Access to the electronic vouchers service is available for a one-off fee of AUD$39.99 for one year’s access, or via a one-time fee of AUD$2.99 for 24 hours. Billing is extremely simple as it is done in one-click, directly through the mobile bill.
Diners no longer need to use different apps for searching, booking and getting directions to a restaurant as Optus Go Places aggregates all these needs into the one mobile application. Hundreds of thousands of reviews to over 25,000 restaurants from Eatability, Australia’s most extensive dining guide, are readily available through Optus Go Places. Once a restaurant has been selected, users can book a table either instantly through the app, powered by Dimmi (a real-time online reservation system in Australia), or by directly calling the venue. Furthermore, users can launch full turn-by-turn navigation from their location to the restaurant directly from Optus Go Places, providing added convenience.
“Optus fully understands the strategic importance of location-based services in their offering portfolio, and they clearly see the end user value that’s derived from such services. Optus Go Places provides Optus customers with an ultra local experience that goes beyond navigation, bringing useful and relevant local content in front of users, using the unique, home screen concept that makes exploration much easier. We will continue working with Optus on expanding the service, adding more and more local content and community services, to bring even more value to Optus customers”, says Oren Nissim, Telmap CEO.
Austin R. Bryan, Director of Optus Digital Media said, “Smart phones are amongst the most treasured possessions for Australians and we’ve always got them by our side. The Optus Go Places app is the perfect tool for organising a dinner out and connecting with friends on your mobile device, as well as getting a great deal to selected restaurants through the electronic vouchers.”
Optus Go Places is available free of charge to Optus customers users who can download it on the Android market, iPhone’s App Store and on the Optus Go Places page for selected Nokia Symbian Touch and selected BlackBerry devices.
