New Mobile App for Families Rewards Kids for Checking-in

I’mOK, a free mobile application launched on the iPhone today, seeks to change the nature of family communication by making kids want to tell parents what’s going on in their lives. By voluntarily sharing their location, taking pictures, tagging friends, and sending notes, kids earn points on I’mOK that can be exchanged for wanted items, like spending money or special privileges. Kids can even earn their talk and text time.

When kids all over the world ask for a cell phone, they do so with the promise that it will be used primarily to stay in touch with the family. I’mOK allows families to keep that promise with a fun and easy check-in game that rewards kids for being communicative and responsible, and frees parents from the temptation to spy or nag.

“Currently, parents who want to know more about their childrens’ whereabouts are reduced either to tracking their kids with GPS as if they were overnight packages, or trying to nag them into submission. But the mobile device can enhance family communication, bringing everyone closer together and making the family safer,” said Matthew Bromberg, founder and CEO of I’mOK. “The only thing that really makes our kids safer is frequent, open communication with their parents.”

I’mOK is a safe and secure app that allows two-way communication between parents and children. There is no passive location tracking of the users. Kids are rewarded for providing detail about their activities and the more they share, the more points they can earn towards wishlist items that parents approve. Currently available for iPhone, I’mOK will be launching a web app and an Android version soon.
