WirelessDevNet.com Press Release

phorus Announces the PlayCast Receiver for Streaming Music from Android to Premium Sound Systems

The PlayCast Receiver, created for Android users to stream music with lossless audio quality from their phones or tablets to existing sound systems, was introduced today by technology start-up phorus at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. With one simple connection, the PlayCast Receiver transforms any home entertainment system, boom-box, or speaker dock into a PlayCast playback device, instantly creating a wireless multi-room music listening experience.

Using Wi-Fi, the PlayCast Receiver links to any Android phone or tablet with the free PlayCast App installed, and outputs music directly through the line-out jack. The connected speaker is then part of the PlayCast network, and can be linked to other PlayCast Receivers or PlayCast Speakers for multi-room music enjoyment. Using the PlayCast App for Android, music lovers can choose to stream audio from their Android device to either one or multiple speakers, an industry first, and have the ability to add, link, or drop zones, with independent and master volume control from one simple interface on their Android device. When linked, music playback from multiple speakers is perfectly synchronized, without lag, echo, or any degradation in sound quality. With PlayCast, any speaker can have access to all of these new capabilities via the existing Wi-Fi infrastructure found in most homes, without the purchase of additional wireless bridge hardware or other burdensome network setup.

“PlayCast’s innovative technology makes whole-home sound not only feasible, but affordable and easy,” said Dannie Lau, founder and CEO of phorus. “With the introduction of the PlayCast Receiver, we are the first to make this experience available to Android users who have already invested in sound systems they enjoy, with the same great audio quality and multi-room synchronization.”

The PlayCast App automatically indexes your music library, and offers integrated support for select streaming music services with crystal-clear lossless audio quality. In addition, the PlayCast Receiver also supports Bluetooth audio devices. Using Bluetooth, any application on the device, including cloud-based libraries, Internet radio, and other music services can take advantage of the PlayCast multi-room speaker network.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

The PlayCast Receiver will have a suggested retail price of $149 and is expected to be available in March of 2012. The free PlayCast App will launch simultaneously on the Android Market.
